On a lengthy trip relocating from Melbourne to Cairns with my wife, father and two dogs. We had stayed at many different accommodations... some were terrible to say the least and the customer service or lack thereof was worse. When I say that reaching Mackay to this park who had the cleanest, loveliest, immaculate cabins which allowed our dogs to stay inside was a relief I can't describe! The customer service was second to none as every staff member I spoke to was friendly, helpful, and accommodating to our needs. They even allowed us to park our big rig (truck + car trailer about 30m in length) for no extra cost. The value & experience of this place was amazing. They made a very long difficult trip a joy for at least one night on our way through! Thank you! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone!

We were travelling from Cairns to Wollongong with our cats due to relocating and wanted to space out the drive. We were driving long hours everyday and couldn't get there before checkin, I was able to phone and arrange for the keys and a map to be left in the safe for us to collect. The lady I spoke to was so friendly and helpful.

Good sized sites. Deep pool over 2m deep. Water slide splash park jumping pillow mini golf pedal cars and a lake for fishing
The kids club from 9 to 12 do great daily activities with something different each day. Nice and quiet and well looked maintained

We stayed here from the 27th of Dec 2024 to the 3rd of Jan 2025. Rooms were clean we had a double bedroom family cabin. 2 adults 3 kids. Close the Mackay Harbour and shops. Pool was amazing with a water slide to keep kids happy, mini golf, jumping pillow and a lake to fish in. The washing machines you can pay by card which was great for us. Nice big deck to enjoy the fresh air con in all rooms. We will definitely book here again. Thank you for the stay.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Would Not Recommend

We stayed at Discovery Parks Mackay for over a week without any issues until Friday night, when a disaster struck. Our tent site flooded due to a burst pipe under our tent, forcing my partner, dog, and I to sleep in our car. Despite calling the emergency number several times, no one responded until much later. We even had to ask neighboring campers to help us move our belongings out of the water.

When someone finally arrived, it was the groundskeeper who turned off the water and then blamed us for the flood, saying we placed our tent peg in the wrong spot—even though there were no warnings or markings. This was highly inappropriate and unprofessional, as it was clearly an issue with the park’s infrastructure.

The next morning, we spoke with the manager, who didn’t offer us any help or compensation. Other campers suggested that a decent response would have been to upgrade us to a cabin for the night, but the park staff showed no care or concern for our situation.

To make matters worse, when we went to the office to discuss the issue and request a refund for the nights we didn’t stay, the receptionist was dismissive and rude. She sighed while we explained our concerns, and despite initially promising to refund us for Sunday, the park later reneged on that commitment.

The level of service we received was unacceptable. Not only were we forced to leave due to an issue caused by the park’s poor infrastructure, but we were also treated poorly when trying to resolve the situation. I would not recommend staying at Discovery Parks Mackay, especially if you expect any kind of support or professionalism from the staff when things go wrong.

Absolutely appalling customer service from the front desk lady/camp manager.
Her attitude and behaviour was beyond atrocious and unbelievably unprofessional.

Being called "hillbilly's" to our faces for putting up a gazebo, camp table and chairs on Christmas Day
If the issue was the location of where it was, the situation could have easily have been spoken about and we wouldve happily have moved it to where we were allowed. But no communication just horrible, offensive language used towards us which put a foul taste in our mouths.

This is so disrespectful and completely unacceptable from someone in her position of 'authority'
Instead of ensuring we had a safe and happy stay & experience, we were made to feel not welcome and very uncomfortable

We went as far as checking with the grounds keeper the next day to see what the issue was and he replied with the fact that he actually had no issue with it just that we weren't allowed to have a bqq left out (gas bottle)

We had 3 families stay throughout 3 cabins for a week over Christmas and are disappointed in this whole situation

Also, the cabins with 1 bed room and a set of bunks in the main area is extremely dangerous and need to be taken away asap
That top bunk is extremely close to the ceiling fan and should not be able to host that bunk bed for safety reasons

We love staying here, the facilities are super clean, modern and well maintained at reasonable costs.
Staff are super friendly, lovely park to walk around and meet other travelers.

Room was super clean and park staff were very nice, able to leave a/c on in the heat and the room was pre cooled on arrival which is nice on a hot day and long drive, make sure to lock cars and take valuables inside, great pool and waterslide for kids
