Pros- Staff are friendly, reasonable and nice; the head of security is an absolute honey. The rooms are basic but practical and clean and suited our family's needs had a very large tv, comfy & clean beds and pillows sufficed. The parking spaces are generous. The pool was clean and refreshing and a consistent depth for younger children.
Cons- No internet! Staff were notified and did their best to rectify but although available, for the entire duration of our short stay we were unable to connect, poor tv reception, limited channels, funky smell occasionally from bathroom. Due to Bowens popularity at our time of travel, accommodation choices were limited.

Stopped over on a return trip. Previously wrote how great the stay was. After travelling the north realised this little motel was the best and why. Old style layout has the ensuite on entry, good sound barrier against outside movement. Rear has glass sliding exit doors onto patio n a rural setting, allowing fresh air into the unit if preferred.
Interior. Roomy, loved the two seater lounge positioned to comfortably watch TV Hate watching from being in a proped up bed. Designated parking position , wide bay in front of room. Ok it’s older but kept clean Only thing I’d change fit a sign saying no reverse in parking to stop exhaust gas entering room. Good value motel with a caring manager and staff. See you next trip cheers ps this review is for BIRCH Motel BOWEN not Cooktown ?
Fix you web site.

Worst hotel experience in decades.
The woman who greeted me was just rude and obnoxious, no help at all. Comments like
"Sort yourself out, I've had a bad day" and "have you decided to pay yet".
The bathroom light constantly flickered, the shower leaks from the wall connection shooting over the door and soaking the bathroom floor.
Cockroach in the shower, and at five in the morning something (I assume another cockroach)
Crawled over my leg.
No power outlets near the bed, not good for people who use cpap.
Had to drag the bed across the room so I could reach an outlet.
Never use this hotel again. Would rather pay twice the price elsewhere.

Genuinely the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I have attempted several times over weeks to get an invoice emailed to me.
Every time I call, I have to ring over 30-40 times in a day. Not exaggerating. They never answer the phone, no matter what time of day it is.
When I have gotten through to someone, it has been an older gentleman that sounds like he has no idea what he is doing. I am told the invoice will be sent through & have still not received anything. Then starting the cycle of calling 40+ times again.
Reading the other reviews, it does not seem worth it in the end. Was glad I cancelled.

Poor hygiene & safety standards. Broken into while we were sleeping. Public toilet maintenance needs to be done as the floors are muddy & wet. Don’t expect soap or toilet paper in main public toilets as buying basic necessities aren’t in their budget. The front gate lock is hard to access as it has dirt & dust built up inside this being dangerous at night time. & just hope you’re not put into a room with live wire hanging above your head with a missing window pane.

Clean, complete and close to historic sites. The receptionist was helpful with advice for key places to visit. The botanic garden is a must see. The local RSL has the best schnitzel in Northern Queensland.| Priced right for the season.

$120 for 2 single beds one night when 3 of us stayed and was told it was self contained and adequate for 3. Ants everywhere, on bedside furniture as well as kitchen area fridge was off so no cold water in the fridge. Only 2 cups for coffee per room. Check out is a 10am, after a poor nights sleep due to the extraordinarily loud fan, we were woken at 9.50am by someone opening the door without knocking and waiting for an answer, practically evicting us. Never again

Stayed here for one night in one of the motel rooms (which I presume all have ensuites). Had a TV and a fantastic shower - but most of all was dead quiet and so easy to sleep. Had a small problem with the fridge unit but other than that a perfect stay. The owners are lovely and if they were located 2 blocks closer to the pub they’d get 5 stars!
