I recently visited Caffè al Lago in Gungahlin, and I have to say—it’s easily one of my new favorite spots in Canberra. Nestled right by Yerrabi Pond, the view alone is worth the visit. But what really makes this place special is the food.

They specialize in Italian sandwiches, and you can absolutely taste the love and quality in every bite. I tried the Pistachio Mortadella with stracciatella and pesto—completely blew me away. The bread is freshly baked in-house (you can smell it as you walk in!), and every ingredient is top-notch. It’s clear the owners really care about bringing a little piece of Tuscany to Canberra.

The vibe is relaxed and friendly, and the ONA coffee pairs perfectly with the food. It’s not the cheapest lunch option, but it’s definitely worth every cent for the flavor and quality you’re getting.

Highly recommend if you’re in the area—or even if you’re not. It’s one of those places that’s worth the drive.

Great spot for breakfast! The pastries here are absolutely outstanding — a true rarity in Australia. Everything is fresh, aromatic, and tastes just like in Europe. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming — a perfect place to start the day. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Came for a coffee, stayed for the sandwiches!

tl;dr great coffee, amazing view, and legendary deli style sandwiches

My goodness, I was surprised at just how much they pack into these deli-style sandwiches. I got the La Mortabella and while the wait was quite long (brunch time on Mother’s Day, so understandable) it was so worth it. Great flavours and huge size made a single sandwich enough for brunch AND takeaway for a meal later on 😁

I am so glad that their berry almond tarts are just lightly sweetened which really suits my needs as I don't want to consume too much sugar but I do like a little sweety enjoyment ❤️ Coffee is a bit light but they offer extra shot for 50 cents which is nice and fair. So will come back 🔙

Second visit - I tried their la prosciutto sandwich today. Ingredients, both prosciutto and vege were very fresh! Also the size of sandwich was big enough that's what I really appreciated 😋 👍 Soy late was good but again a bit light for me personally 😜.

Caffé al Lago is an absolute gem by Yerrabi Pond. The sandwiches are incredible—freshly made with authentic Italian breads and packed with flavour.The staff are warm, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do, which makes every visit feel special. The lakeside location adds to the charm, perfect for a relaxed brunch or lunch. Highly recommended!

I would rate this cafe hands down as the best place to get fresh sandwiches. Not only is your bread freshly made, on the spot and gives it a unique taste, but it tastes so damn good, that you will come back for more.

Kudos to the owner and their staff and a must visit if you happen to be on this side of town.

Caffe al Lago is a true treasure in Canberra, offering an unbeatable combination of delicious food, exceptional coffee, and breathtaking views of the lake.

Their Italian sandwiches are hands down the best I’ve ever had! The bread is perfectly crunchy on the outside while staying wonderfully soft on the inside, and the flavors are absolutely divine. Each bite feels like a little piece of Italy.

The ONA coffee here is exceptional as well – smooth, rich, and expertly brewed every single time. It’s a true testament to their dedication to quality.

On top of that, the customer service is outstanding. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about ensuring you have a great experience.

Caffe al Lago is a must-visit for anyone in Canberra. Amazing food, great coffee, fantastic service, and breathtaking views. Definitely i will come back!!

Absolutely what I needed a delicious coffee, and phenomenal sandwich that I could not finish. For this visit I chose to get take away and cross the street to watch the birds while enjoying brunch. Thank you again for a delicious treat! This cafe is also a great stopover on the way to the playgrounds at Yerrabi.
