Absolutely recommended if you have any interest in nature or camping. If you are a birder, visiting this place is a MUST. Incredible job by AWC managing the sanctuary.

This is our second visit to Bowra and although different from the first time it is much improved. I haven't seen any new birds but love seeing any birds and the camp area is being kept immaculate. Terrific new showers and toilets also extremely clean and smelling sweet.
We have enjoyed a very relaxed and peaceful stay.
Many thanks to Alan and Ann. 😊😊

The only downside to our stay at Bowra is I wished we had booked in for longer! Never mind though, we’re already planning our next trip.

The people we met contributed just as much to a wonderful visit as the natural beauty and diverse bird life at Bowra. Chatting with other likeminded people, feeling very encouraged as young novice birdwatchers, and the friendly, welcoming hospitality of the outgoing and incoming camp hosts was so lovely. Concern for guest wellbeing and safety was much appreciated, as was the briefing at the beginning of our stay regarding fire danger conditions and environmental management.

The facilities are also well looked after, with spotlessly clean toilets and hot showers.

We stayed here about a month ago. It remains one of our favourite spots in 26,000 km of travel. We enjoy birds but are not birders. This place is awesome for anybody who loves nature, peace and like minded travellers. The property and roads are beautifully maintained and there are lots of different environments to explore. It had rained heavily just before our arrival so many of the roads were closed. Our bikes were put to great use exploring the property. Tess and her partner are passionate conservationists and do an amazing job. The volunteers were great too! Book well in advance and book a few days at least, you won't regret it.

If you have even a passing interest in birds or other wildlife, just Hey in your car and go here! Huge species list of stunningly beautiful and rarer birds in an old castle station which seems to have been rehabbed pretty well. The dedicated volunteers who run the place do a great job. You can camp overnight with as night minimum payment or come as day visitor from Charleville, yowah, thargominda or preferably cunnumulla

Great property with a wonderful lady host Maggie. Her passion for Bowra shows as does a love of birds.
Our stay was restricted access to tracks due to wet weather but walking really gave us a feel for what is here.
The habitat is so diverse with natural waterway, swamps and dams.
Bird life was satisfactory for July but will return for another visit.
The camping is nothing short of excellent. Amenities all new and meticulously cleaned.
A privilege to be there.

If you love bird watching this is the stop for you. Immaculate amenities, hot showers and flushing toilets a real off grid camping luxury. Big private sites, wildlife respecting guests, away from the busyness of commercial parks and town.

We had a day birding here in Bowra Sanctuary. Really enjoyed our visit, great work being done here by the AWC.
Having spent a few weeks in this area of Queensland, one begins to despair at the damage being done thur grazing of these fragile outback lands, Bowra is a ray of hope for the future. BE AWARE that Bowra is often closed August September when Students are in the Sanctuary doing survey work. Perhaps this could be highlight somewhere on there website. 🤔
