Stayed for a long weekend and would thoroughly recommend it. Stayed on third floor and enjoyed the ocean view. Room was spacious with a thick carpet. The attitude of every staff member made the trip so memorable. They went above and beyond in every interaction. Big shout out to the grounds staff in particular for helping change our flat tyre. Can’t wait to return.

Bannister's staff are great; friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Food options at the three levels of dining can match any craving. The accommodation however, is cheap, tired and, in places, plain broken. In the suite upstairs with a separate bedroom the following was noted...Evidence of leaking refrigerator with swollen chipboard cabinetry, absolutely no place to hang a towel up in the main bathroom...no hooks no rail. Drawers all at drunken angles, cabinet doors creaky and not closing properly, the bed was uncomfortable with pronounced "hammocking", toilet seats in poor repair, WATER HAMMER IN PLUMBING will keep you awake as other guests use their bathrooms...finally the noise of poorly adjusted door back-checks producing a loud boom whenever adjoining rooms doors close....if you're a light sleeper take your earplugs... AND barking dogs downstairs at around 6 am providing an unpleasant early wake-up call. This "dog friendly" nonsense has to end...many dog owners are inured to their dogs bark and have no consideration for other guests....typically rude and selfish.
Fundamentally ordinary, perhaps even poor accommodation.
Objective warning.

Our first time at Bannisters Port Stephens (having twice stayed at Bannisters Mollymook) and we were impressed. Understated but classy room - fantastic water views from our top level room, loved the white painted wood panelling, spotlessly clean bathroom with a great shower & external exhaust, very comfortable bed plus a safe. Daily house-keeping was unobtrusive and thorough. Very friendly and helpful service from the front desk (especially Ross and Georgia, the latter having handled our actual booking). Getting a parking spot in upper carpark a minor challenge but we managed. Continental breakfast (included) in Rick Stein's restaurant simply first class with a great choice of fresh options (the smoked salmon and fresh-baked croissants real winners) and the coffee machine coffee as good as we've had (from a machine). We had dinner twice at Rick's restaurant with perhaps mixed success (local pippies, sashimi, full blue swimmer crab and the fish curry were winners; fish pie was an effort to complete with a couple of large way over-cooked prawns and a "centrepiece" of very tough fish of unknown origin). Wines weren't inexpensive and a bit challenging to choose (few recognisable labels) but choices turned out OK. Restaurant service was as good as we could ever recall. The on-site Cheeky Dog restaurant (a pub style cafeteria) was a contrasting option for informal meals and we enjoyed some excellent pizzas etc there. We attended a masterclass cooking class which was a little underwhelming - couldn't see what was going on as "the pot" was way above eye level but the fare which was shared for all to enjoy at the end was excellent. Overall we had a fantastic week and will certainly be back.

Tranquility, pleasant and at night time very quiet and dark in the room to sleep, in my opinion that’s what I like!
All amenities are very good, pool with a view, Mexican food and the bar, the restaurant Rick Stein excellent service and delicious food for dinner & breakfast and the Bistro Cheeky Dog.
All staff are very friendly 🙂

Read a review online stating how dog friendly this place is- we were not disappointed! Lovely room with King size bed, beautiful pool area to enjoy drinks. Dinner at Julios was great and all dog friendly. Finally continental brekky the next morning was nice and once again fully dog friendly. Each and every staff member we encountered were so friendly and loved our boys. Already planning another visit again soon

Absolutely fabulous resort, just like being in Noosa...only closer and not overly priced.
Definitely will be returning, the service and professionalism of the staff is just perfect.
The food, as expected, from Rick Stein did not disappoint.
Breakfast was the ultimate dinning experience...bit of everything that hit the spot just nicely.
10 out of 10. My new favourite spot in town. Can't wait to return.

After hearing about how nice Bannisters is and that Rick Stein has a restaurant there I thought this would be a great wedding anniversary surprise for my wife.
I booked for 2 nights and was far from impressed.
Upon arrival we were greeted by staff that seemed disinterested and told us to come back for our complimentary Champaign on arrival, only if we wanted to.
After checking in we went downstairs to order some drinks at julios mexican restaurant and the service we received from one of the girls was bordering on contempt. We ordered our drinks but let her bad service slide.
The swimming pool was great but that was probably the only thing that was appealing.
The rooms are reminiscent of an old Best western motel that has been painted and semi renovated.
The so called ocean view room for the price I paid was a rip off. Being charged prices for more than I usually pay for 5 star hotels is absurd.
Both my wife and I had dinner reservations at Rick Steins restaurant of which I specifically stated I wanted a booth and that it was a wedding anniversary. I not only specified this request in an email when making the booking but also telephoned and confirmed 6 weeks prior. Upon attending we were taken to a table next to a concrete pole and wished a happy wedding anniversary. It was not until I expressed my disappointment that we then surprisingly had been given the empty booth that we had booked.
It gets worse from here.
We order dinner and the entrees come out. Not bad but very bland.
The mains come out and my supposed $70 steak was like something you would get from a fast food outlet.
It appeared to be microwaved and then thrown on to get some chargrilled appearance. It was cold and not to standard.
I wonder if this is in fact to Rick Steins standards because if it is then maybe I should take up cooking , open restaurants and have a TV cooking series.
I was extremely disappointed with the whole experience and would never recommend.

Comfortable, spacious accommodation with a view of the bay that just gets better each time we stay. Delicious and varied breakfast. And the highlight - Rick Stein on site for top quality dining. Had the mahi mahi with beurre Blanc with seaweed main - just a perfect dish! Savoured each mouthful. Great cocktails and wines. No need to leave the property to take meals. Peaceful ambience and great, professional service. We wouldn’t consider anywhere else for a break away.
