Aunty Ed's Restaurant and Bar - Katoomba, New South Wales

It was my first visit to Aunty Ed's and unfortunately will be my last too. Here is a recap of my experience:
- It took a while before we were attended to for a seat. Nevertheless, the wait staff was pleasant and did get us a table.
- Another wait staff took our order and recommended the beef brisket as 1 of our order options. Unfortunately, this turned out to be quite an unpleasant dish. The brisket had hardly any sauce & was very stringy and dry. When I enquired if I could get more sauce as there wasnt much to begin with, I was informed that they ran out of the brisket sauce. Gravy was an option provided, but it was lumpy and had an unpleasant chemical like smell. I had to chow down the remainder of the very dry beef brisket to not be hungry.
- It took 3 tries to get table water. The 3rd try was only successful when I requested from the first wait staff who seated us.
- The mulled wine was on the sweeter side and while pleasant as an after dinner drink, it would have been better as less sweet with more spices to create more depth of flavour.
- Also heard another patron whose order didnt arrive after waiting an hour and upon checking the ordering system, it seemed that the order wasn't put in. The wait staff expressed being stressed & busy.

It would be unfair to not express some positives I saw. They were:
- Decor and ambience for the place were pleasant. It was tastefully decorated & had a good colour scheme blend.
- The Big Barra was pretty good. The Salsa Verde complemented the fish. The fish was beautifully cooked. Miles apart from the beef brisket.
- They accept cash or card for payment. But do note that they do have a surcharge for card payments.

These positive points were the salvaging points of rating this place a 2 instead of lower.

If you want raw burger meat and 45 minutes of your time wasted when it’s QUIET not busy at all, then this is the place to be!! Enjoy the amazing atmosphere with staff doing nothing, not even bothering cleaning down tables with any effort chatting with each other Don’t worry, you’re in the right hands 😛. When u sit at you’re table, You’ll be greeted with a very nice girl with purple hair That totally doesn’t give you dirty looks every 10 minutes from the bar 😍 Ahh amazing just a place to comfortable in 🤩 and I must say waiting 45 minutes for food When you’re hungry for dinner is a very wonderful experience! you guys must try it 😍😍 truly convinced the staff in the kitchen are just on their phones doing nothing at all. When the burgers came I took one bite and cried inside when I looked at the meat…I don’t even know how it’s even humanly possible to mess up a burger that bad you had all that time in the world to cook it, 45 min to be exact! 🥀🥀 if you guys are looking for a better bruger place, head to cattlefish up the street from it. Oh and it’s $11 for a burger, not $32 with cooked meat and nicer staff 🥰 train ya Bloody kitchen staff better not that hard. Anyway, definitely recommend. See you again soon xx

i get it. sometimes its just not your night. but on a clearly understaffed floor. i could see they were trying their best. we were seated quickly. and drinks orders were soon after that. it did take some time for the drinks to arrive. at which point we ordered. hoping to get ahead of any crowd that may come in. two burgers. which were honestly not long in waiting. and the food saved this from being a lower review. with enought staff. i can see the potential in this place.

It's a great restaurant. The interior was cute and the food was delicious. And thanks to the waitress who can speak Japanese, we were able to have a wonderful time. I regret that we didn't have enough time to relax, but I would like to go back and see the pretty waitress again. Thank you very much.

Food seems to be pretty good for the area, not too many options but the menu changes often. Good cocktail and drinks selection, but the service was not fast at all considering it was not too busy. The atmosphere was nice but there was a live musician who was kinda average and way way too loud. We orded a dessert that took over 30 mins to arrive. After 15 mins we asked about it which when the waitress checked with the kitchen but did not think to tell us why there was a delay. Turns out their order printer was broken but we were sitting thinking the service was just horrible. Overall, it's a cool venue with reasonable food but we just happened to be there on a night which music that was way too loud, ruining the atmosphere, and decided to order dessert, which added an unnecessary 45 mins to our visit.

Aunty Ed’s has a really cool vintage vibe that hits you as soon as you walk in—lots of quirky, retro details that make the place feel unique. The service started off great; the staff was friendly and attentive, but things slowed down after we got the dessert menu. It was like everyone was more focused on cleaning up than on taking our order, which was a bit of a letdown, especially when we had to wave at the bar to order our dessert.

I also noticed they were turning away guests who didn’t have a reservation, even though the place was never more than half full while we were there.

But despite these things, the food was absolutely on point. The brisket was fantastic, melt-in-your-mouth good, and the love cake was the perfect way to end the meal.

Hidden in plain sight on the main road, this atmospheric restaurant/bar is a delightfully welcoming find!
The staff are friendly and engaging and the seating allows for privacy from other patrons while giving you the feeling of being the only priority.
The entrees are absolutely delicious and had we not devoured them, there’d be a picture!
The sangria is exceptional! I had also ordered a cocktail more experimental and the bar staff meet this challenge with enthusiasm and I was rewarded with a fruity and ‘aniseedy’ delight.🍸
The mains on offer are all equally amazing!
Definitely the place to go for a meal!!

Great mid mod vibe and furnishings. Waitress didn't know menu, food served not as described, ordered no sauce and came with sauce, hot food served room temperature, small portions, did not check back, very slow service, under staffed, would not return.
