The only reason I gave it 5 stars was because there was more stars to give. Firstly, it is called the Atherton Turf Club but it is, in actual face, in a small town called Tolga. Go figure. Secondly, for all you die hard punters out there (and yes, I was one once back in the early 90s) I didn't attend the Atherton Turf Club for the fillies, four legged or two legged. No you say, we'll yes, no I say indeed. On the first Sunday of every month the markets are on. Now, it is called the

My review is about the antiquated, out of touch and unreasonable enforcement of a 'no dogs' policy for the country Markets that are held at the Atherton Turf Club, Tolga, Queensland.
Combining School Holidays and long weekends at a tourist location should be sufficient reason to have an inclusive, encouraging and supportive policy that facilitates the local and tourism communities to interact with their pets in social activities.
Dogs on leads are accepted as being appropriate in Country Markets around Australia. The fact that Tolga Markets do not allow dogs on leads is extremely prejudicial and that policy should not apply to non horse activity days.
Generally any dog owner that has an aggressive natured animal more than likely will not take such animals to a public market place.
A tourist town relying on tourists needs to look at current trends and adjust
People are travelling with pets. That's a given.
Over a one hour period, I witnessed ten (10) family groups with well behaved dogs not permitted to enter. This leaves a lasting negative experience and has a cascading flow on effect, further discouraging future attendance.
Very, very disappointed.
