We stayed at the Outpost for 5 nights. Granted the weather was terribly hot, but Rowan and Maddie did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. We had two teenage boys and they loved it. Carnarvon Gorge is reasonably close and you can learn a lot about cattle farming and there are quite a few hikes around and local aboriginal paintings. Would strongly recommend to anyone with teenagers who want adventure.

Rowan and Maddie have created a most unique, warm and welcoming experience for guests. Everything you need for a very comfortable stay is ready and waiting in The Cottage. This is true country hospitality at its very best. You can do as much or as little as you like, on your own or with other guests and families. Our children swam and canoed every day and we found the most spectacular places (a different one every afternoon) for watching the sun set and the stars come out. The bird life was astounding and we saw every unique Australian animal possible including mother emu and 10 chicks, echidnas, wallaby, kangaroo etc. Rowan's movie night was delightful (an outdoor cinema with outdoor fire - take some wine and cheese!).||We knew we were headed for an outback experience, and expected a typical type of scenery, but we were astounded at just how beautiful this valley was. The natural beauty really took our breath away. Make sure you take the time to see the whole valley from the Lonesome National park look out.

Rowan and Maddy are great down to earth hosts. Stayed at the "The Cottage" 2 couples. Also checked out "the outpost" smaller for one couple but remote with great views over the plains to the distance mountains.Heaps of Wildlife and plenty of wood for roaring fires both inside and outside the house. Check out Rowans' dads ( Wally Peart) book, " no risk no fun". He is Australian farming royalty and has led an amazing life, not only forming the national farmers federation, a pioneer of innovative modern farming methods, a canny negotiator with coal seem gas companies but a wild man in his younger days and a sculpture as well !||Ideal place fore 3 nights to or from Carnarvon Gorge NP. We actually liked it better than the crowds at Carnarvon, try and stay 3 nights and do the "Ludwig Leichhardts Footsteps" walk up into the mountains. Don't be fooled by I phone or Google maps its not 3.5 hours north of Roma, less than 2 on good bitumen roads and also about 2 hours from Carnarvon National Park

We were guests of Maddy and Rowan at their 'Outpost'. It would be difficult to get a more glorious view of country Australia than from its verandah. Emus, kangaroos, hundreds of bird species (apparently.... They will sound a bit the same to us :)) and the mouing of cattle in the distance. From sunrise to sunset an ever-changing glorious vista.||||The outpost is perfectly set up for barbecue style cooking and the sleeping conditions are comfortable. ||||Hot running water in the shower thanks to a generator and full water tanks (important to us).||||Don't miss the farm tour by Rowan. He increased our knowledge of cattle farming by approximately 10,000% in three and half hours. Rowan and Maddy, and Rowan's parents before him on the farm are innovators from way back and at the cutting edge of cattle farming. It turns out, cattle farming is fascinating and complex! ||||Interesting also to observe how farming and gas mining can actually work well side-by-side on the same property.||||The fact that our 16-year-old teenager upon departure from Arcadia Valley Escape said 'I'm actually a bit sad to be leaving here' and 'that Rowan is such a good guy'... Says it all.||||Thanks Rowan and Maddy

My family (husband and two sons) stayed in 'The Cottage' for four nights. The Cottage is very spacious and given that the weather was HOT, the air conditioning was very much appreciated. ||||Rowan is an excellent host/entertainer (Maddie is awesome and exists too.. as the organiser), making us feel more than welcome, sharing his knowledge of not only his land but the surrounding areas. In true country fashion, nothing seemed to be too much trouble and there was always a story to listen to.||||We were busy. Every day: we explored the property, caught fish, tried to catch cray-bobs, watched storms roll over the escarpments, helped Rowan out in the cattle yards, played boardgames, watched a movie under the stars, saw a wide variety of birds, checked out the lookout at Lonesome National Park and trekked through the middle section of Carnarvon Gorge.||||We LOVED staying at Arcadia Valley Escape and are planning to visit again.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Outpost. We weren't sure what to expect as we knew it was off grid and away from everything but we were delighted by the cosy stone built cottage nested into the hillside with superb views across the Arcadia Valley. It had everything we needed to get away from it all and soak up the peace and quiet, no internet, no mobile phones and a view to die for. We loved the fact that Maddy and Rowan would take the time to explain how they farmed and what activities we could do whilst staying there and we absolutely appreciate the biodiversity of the farm which is run in a sustainable manner. We counted nearly 40 species of birds with our rather limited bird identification knowledge and know there are many more out there for more proficient "twitchers". Thoroughly recommend the Outpost for those seeking to get away from it all. Its rustic but comfortable, suits visitors who aren't afraid to have quiet words with the odd green tree frog who thinks the outside toilet is a pond, and will happily relocate it to a more suitable location. We had great fun there and will return.

Totally recommend staying at the Outpost for an off-grid experience on a working cattle station. Our family (4 adults, 2 kids ages 13 & 11) LOVED this experience. ||The Outpost is rustic with tank water (flushing toilet & hot shower) and solar electricity (no tv - hooray) - but thats the charm. ||||The views are SPECTACULAR - we sat back sipping wine as we watch the sun set. Then we toasted marshmallows by the fire and gazed at the stars. We drove around the farm and discovered cattle, kangaroos and even an emu. We visited the dam to paddled on the kayak and watched the sun set over the mountains from the bird hide. ||Rowan was herding cattle so we were able to tag along and learn about his modern farming methods - it was an experience we won't ever forget and gives us a better appreciation of farming.||Rowan and Maddie are fantastic hosts and I recommend staying at their farm if you are visiting Carnarvon Gorge.
