Had a great experience at Altitude 1148! The view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning, definitely one of the best lookouts in the area. I’ve tried the Big Aussie Brekkie and the Lamb Burger, and both have become some of my favourites. The Chilli Prawn Pizza is a must-try too, packed with flavour. The coffee was delicious and hit the spot. The staff were super friendly and made the visit even better. Highly recommend for both the food and the atmosphere!

We visited this cafe recently and left with mixed feelings.

On the positive side, the location is beautiful with a wonderful view, great ambiance, and friendly, welcoming staff. it’s definitely a pleasant spot to sit and relax.

However, the food was disappointing for the price. We ordered the Aussie Big Breakfast. The portion size was surprisingly small. The toast was tiny, and tasted below average. overall it didn’t feel worth the ~$25 price tag.

The fresh juice was the biggest letdown — it had a strange taste and smell, clearly not made from fresh fruit. To their credit, the staff quickly offered a refund or a replacement drink, which we appreciated. The coffee taste was also below average compared to other cafés.
Sorry to say, but the French toast we ordered was the worst French toast I have ever seen and tasted. I felt so Yuck after having a bite of French toast.

Overall, the cafe has a lot of potential thanks to its location and service, but the food quality and value for money really need improvement to match the experience.

For a quick break while driving towards Kiama, Altitude 1148 cafe has very good scones paired with coffee. Scones are very soft inside and go very well with the strawberry jam and cream. It’s nice to be able to see the shore and town from the lookout point- I’m surprised to see 5 islands.

Absolutely disappointing breakfast – never again.

Waited over 20 minutes for a basic scrambled eggs on toast with a mashed avocado add-on. When it finally arrived, there was no avocado on the plate. After asking, they brought out a sad, uneven quarter slice of avocado that was clearly not fresh — far from the “mashed avocado” I ordered and paid for.

The scrambled eggs were bland, completely under-seasoned, and the spinach on the side was so salty, it was actually bitter and inedible. It tasted like it had been soaked in saltwater.

To make matters worse, the service was careless. We weren’t even offered water, while other tables around us were served water immediately. The staff seemed indifferent and inattentive.

Given that this spot is a popular stopover on the highway, many people come in expecting a good breakfast experience during their long drive. Instead, this kind of dissatisfaction completely kills the mood and excitement of the trip. It’s frustrating and disappointing when such a scenic location is let down by poor food and even worse service.

This was genuinely one of the worst breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. For a place with such a great view, the food and service are shockingly below standard. Definitely would not recommend and won’t be returning.

The food was not bad, but the portions were very stingy compared to the prices. We ordered, and we had to wait for 40 minutes approx for the food to be served. Although there was a couple of customers. The only thing we enjoyed was the view.

First of all the environment is super beautiful here. It's a cafe in Southern Gate which is on the hilltop & one can enjoy the whole city from here. Theirs Mocha is so good but the staffs are always busy.

Absolutely Stunning views!! We ordered 2 big Aussie breakfast, both porched eggs and hash brown were totally overcooked / reheated. Upon complaint both were replaced without any issue. However overall food experience was poor.

The food we ordered except the fish and chips was all bland and extremely overpriced. The manager was kind of rude and borderline racist. The other staff were good. The only best thing about this place is the view that you get.
