While this B&B lies on a steep road & a little hard to get in & out of the atmosphere inside is quite unique. Located under the main house the stone walls are a feature. Large open living space with all that is needed supplied for breakfast. The comfortable bedroom is huge & so is the bathroom. Laundry facilities available within the unit. Location is central just a 15-20 minute walk to Hobart foreshore. Would not hesitate to stay again.

My husband and I stayed in the luxury suite for 1 night during our honeymoon. The house is located on a steep hill and set off from the street so we had a little difficulty finding the place. Parking is also a bit tricky as the driveway is small and you need to maneuver your car onto 2 metal ramps at an angle. The house is older and from the outside, you would expect the accommodations to be traditional. However, once you walk into the apartment, your surroundings resemble a posh contemporary city flat. The interior has been completely renovated and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was gorgeous with a separate tub and large walk-in shower. I really appreciated the lovely air fresheners and all the organic toiletries left for us to use. ||||Sean and Rebecca (our hosts) were very friendly and even did a load of laundry for us! The apartment is not self-contained but had a fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave as well as fresh baked bread and continental breakfast. ||||A small issue we had was that the heater was in the living room and a bit far from the bedroom and even though it was Hobart's summer, we were still quite cold at night.

We spent two nights here at the end of our trip to Tasmania. Although it's called a B&B you in effect have the bottom floor of a huge old house, with oversized living / dining area, huge bedroom and a bathroom with freestanding bath and monsoon shower. See photos for better idea. The breakfast was provided in the dining area each morning (cereal / toast / jam etc to make for yourself - which worked very well). Communication / payment / checking in etc was smooth with the minimum of fuss. It's located on a steep hill which may be an issue if you don't have transport, but otherwise the location is very good within Hobart. I'd come back here on a future trip.

Gorgeous! The room is spacious and comfortable and beautifully decorated. We had a perfect stay- 5 days of perfection. The log fire in the living area was a real highlight as was the stunningly beautiful bathroom. The bed is comfortable and loads of extra pillows and blankets if needed. The hosts are lovely. The driveway is not really for the faint-hearted I have to say! The location was ideal for us as we wanted somewhere peaceful but close to the city. I would highly recommend a stay here, we will definitely be coming back 🙂

I wuold have stayed at Altamont House for two weeks if I could have!||The B&B is set downstairs of a beautiful old house and it is huge- large lounge area with TV, couches, and dining table. The bedroom felt almost bigger than the lounge area and the bathroom was large with a big shower and freestanding bath. The property has new carpet and is feels very warm and comfortable, and they have obviously taken a lot of care in designing the lighting.||We even found a little hadnwritten note from the owners welcoming us to the property!||We didn't feel like we were underneath someones house at all as it has a separate driveway and entrance with a porch. ||Breakfast was basic (selection of cereals, fresh bread, spreads, yoghurt, milk/tea/coffee/hot choc) but there are no cooking facilities (besides a toaster/kettle) so this is understandable!||After travelling around Tasmania for a week and staying in many other places, this was definitely great value as well.||Would definitely stay at Altamont House when next in Hobart!

Altamont House is a beautiful historical property in a good location, just out of central Hobart. From the outside the house is gracious with her old world charm and lace work around the veranda, however upon entering the premises you meet modern contemporary living, mixed with a few antiques here and there. The host (Nicky) and her family live on the upper floors and the accommodation is on the lower level. ||||The house is spacious and has two huge bedrooms and a beautiful bathroom in which the original stone walls have been preserved and incorporated into the bathroom design as a feature. The bathroom has a big shower and a deep free standing bath (which we did not utilise). ||||The queen bed was very comfortable and was fitted out with quality linen. I could not fault the cleanliness of the property. ||||There is no kitchen area, however there is a large cupboard which hides a mini fridge, microwave, plates/bowls, tea/coffee and cutlery. There is no sink with running water and I had to resort to obtaining water from the bathroom as this is the only option. I did not really like the idea of using water from the bathroom ie. for drinking, filling the kettle or washing a cup out, as it was next to the toilet (and people had touched the taps after using the toilet). ||||Breakfast provisions were left for us which consisted of bread, jams, butter, fruit, cereals, yogurt, milk and juice. After you have finished with your dishes, you are instructed to leave them on a tray and when you are out of the premises, the host comes and collects the tray with dirty dishes and tops up your breakfast provisions daily.||||Free Wifi was provided which made my 15 year old son very happy.||||Cons: ||The property is situation on a steep street and you enter the driveway off the street to the side of the building. Exiting the driveway was tricky, especially at night, and we struggled a little at times. However, there is parking in the street if you feel comfortable with leaving your car there.||||You could hear the host's children running along the floorboards above you and I could hear the host entertaining or talking to friends.||||I felt that the host was not interested in interacting face to face with guests. Payment was required to be made upfront prior to arrival and you are supplied with a key code to access the building yourself. Upon arrival I contacted the host to let her know we had arrived. As we stayed for three nights, I would have thought the host would have come down and introduced herself or ask if we needed assistance with anything. We did not see the host for the entire three days, even though she was just upstairs above us. I found this quite odd for what is described as a B&B and quite frankly, somewhat rude.

Had a wonderful stay with my amazing girlfriend who took me to Tasmania for the weekend. The accomodation is absolutley massive with a separate lounge dining area with a fireplace. Beautiful original sandstone house with a great bathtub. Wonderful stay and will definitely stay there again when next in Hobart

Upon arrival we were greeted by a strong chemical smell and despite the spacious rooms & lovely furnishings we did not stay more than an hour. You can't open windows at night while sleeping without compromising security. I couldn't stay closed up in my room with that smell. It is dark without the lights on even during the day and the road outside is very steep.
