Gum Grove Chalets - Denmark, Western Australia

Pretty negative experience to be honest. Was in no way represented as advertised.
Was sent at least half a dozen emails prior to arrival with various rules and instructions in which was followed through.
Name wasn't on board on arrival as advised.
Keys were not in door as advised.
Chalet was A LOT smaller than advertised.
Dishes and cutlery were filthy. Tiny bar fridge had bits breaking off it and the freezer iced up solid.
Said hello to the owners and their guests, ignored every single time. Saturday night we were blocked in by the owners guests, so we couldn't even leave if we wanted to. Not sure why their guests needed to park, blocking our allotted car spot.
The couch and beds clearly haven't been upgraded in 50 years and are extremely uncomfortable.
The TV does actually work and there are loads of books and DVDs available.
Overall disappointing. Just a let down.
There's plenty of other accomdation in the area availble.

Aside from being the best value accommodation in the Great Southern, Meegan & Brett have done an amazing job turning the space into a whimsical but modern nod to Australian heritage. The space had everything we needed for a cosy weekend getaway. The cottage had everything we needed for a cosy and relaxing getaway. The beds were exceptionally comfortable (I’d love to know where the queen mattress is from!), and the newly refurbished kitchen was a dream to cook in. Our kids especially loved the collection of toys and DVDs—it was a lovely touch that made us all feel at home. Overall, this was a truly memorable stay.
We’ve already recommended Gum Grove to friends and family and can’t wait to return ourselves. Thank you again, Meegan and Brett!

PS Since taking over in late 2021, they have evidently gone above and beyond to turn the place around. I had seen the poor reviews from before they took over so know how hard they must be working to change the experience. NOTE poor TA reviews up until 2021 don't reflect the space as it is now.

Such an incredible experience at Gum Grove and a beautiful way to experience Denmark. Not only is it the most family friendly and safe place for children but all of the adults here are so welcoming. Denmark is known for its stunning community and Gum Grove is a magical way to experience it.

Meegan and Brett are such kind and wonderful hosts who made us feel so welcome

The accommodation is clean, cosy and gives the perfect cottage getaway vibes. The scenery around is beautiful and the courtyard gives a perfect space to enjoy dinner outside. I was so impressed that they use natural products to add to the experience. The accommodation is set up with everything you could need inside

I am so happy with our stay that we will be back regularly!

What great little find ! Super friendly owners, cute cottages surrounded by trees and only 5 mins into town. Perfect weekend getaway.

I stayed here back in May 2023. The cottage I stayed in was dog friendly and my large pup and I had a great time.
Trails around the chalets to walk dogs were amazing. Everyone I saw at the chalets, staff and visitors, were so friendly.
The bed was comfy, the living area was so cosy, the kitchen had everything I needed, even to make a slow cooked beef curry from scratch.
The table out on the verandah was also great in the evenings where my dog would have his dinner and I had a beer with the sunset.
Would recommend to those want a quiet, relaxing and cosy getaway.

Such a perfect spot close to town and everything else for long or short stays. Such a variety of chalets to choose from all of which have been beautifully and thoughtfully renovated.
Owners are the greatest, super helpful and friendly and I love their ethos that you can see weaved through the whole property.
Highly recommend for solo, couples, families or groups. A couple of these are even doggo friendly.
