We recently stayed at this loft and had a mixed experience. The location is excellent—close to all the main hotspots, and the farm setting with animals to feed was a charming touch. The loft itself was clean, and the freshly baked bread provided was a delightful bonus. The fire made for a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a couple looking to relax and unwind.

However, there are several serious safety concerns for families with young children. The stairs had no baby gate, and both rooms featured balconies at hip height that overlook tiled floors below—posing a significant fall risk. Additionally, there were no locks on the downstairs doors, which is worrying given the property’s proximity to a highway.

The TV was quite old and had some issues, including a remote control with no batteries. While these are minor inconveniences for adults, combined with the safety hazards, I would strongly advise against staying here with children.

Final Verdict:
Perfect for couples or adults seeking a peaceful retreat—but not suitable for kids due to safety concerns.

Unbelievable place, the gardens are amazing, the sheep and lamas are friendly enough. The hosts are super friendly, the accommodation immaculate with everything you could need already there plus freshly baked bread! Really highly recommend this place. Close to valley of the giants, its a must stay place that I'll be staying at longer than 2 days next time.

At first entry into the lofthouse we were impressed. It looked nice.|Further into our stay it became apparent that the house is very dated & in need of some investment-aka: TLC. The feeling is that everything is functional but mediocre.|Some basic things were noticeably amiss. |*There is nowhere to place any personal items in the bathroom, as in-no sink space, no shelf: nothing. This was quite unacceptable.|*Breakfast supplies were generously left including eggs, butter, milk, oats & cereal, plus a freshly baked loaf & extra bread making packets for the following days which was appreciated. A couple of extra personal touches to the breakfast would have gone a long way such as some juice, jam, cheese perhaps? The breakfast cereal boxes were just before their use by date & were stale.|*The teflon in the bread maker pan was heavily scratched.|*The bed was very comfortable & we slept well. A bedhead would have added a huge amount of comfort when trying to sit up to read.|*It was difficult to watch tv due to the poor sound quality of the tv. |*Accomodation is very close to the highway, therefore traffic noise is imminent.|*Sleeping upstairs, you awake with first light as you are exposed to glass windows that have no blinds.|This basic kind of accommodation is perfect for families with children, especially given the large grassy areas to play on. But as a couple we felt it lacked anything special including zero personal touch or charm.|Guests should be aware that you are on the clock when using the spa. We used the spa twice late in the day before closing time & were invited by the owner to take our time, not to worry as no-one will be using it after us. We did not realise that she charged us for every minute over the advertised 30 minute use. We certainly would not have hung about talking together for 15 minutes while we cooled down! We complained but never did see the small refund she offered to pay back.|Kim was very nice & helpful with recommendations, but business is the name of the game. Her website policy clearly states an amendment fee of $50 for any changes to number of guests. We were disappointed that she refused to honour this when our group dropped from 4 to 2 guests. She justified with explanations of a minimum 4 guest price policy (fortnight out from Christmas) but from our perspective, that policy was not yet in place for the dates we were there. |In general, communication about her policies were not upfront when they needed to be.|We appreciated her trying to rebook the chalet so that we could cancel, but it did not happen so we came as one couple nevertheless & did manage to enjoy ourselves in the wonderful location of Walpole.|The events garden is very lovely & we enjoyed taking a walk around there.|It’s safe to say that we vacated from our getaway in the Tree-Elle Retreat with a balanced mix of positive & negative feelings.

I first visited Tree Elle back in 2012 with my then 7 and 5 year olds. It is such a peaceful and tranquil little gem and fantastic for kids. The fantastic experience and memories stayed with me and when I went to book accomodation in Denmark last month (12 years later) I chose to stay there again. Still such an amazing place to stay. Travelled down with my 3 year old this time who adored staying on a “farm”. Kim is such an amazing host- fresh bread when you arrive- all the necessities to get you by for breakfast. My son was able to feed the chickens and collect eggs and feed the sheep and alpacas. Would highly recommend staying. Thanks Kim!

My family and I have been returning to stay at Tree-Elle Retreat for the last 8 years. We all love it. Kim and Peter are fantastic hosts and make you feel right at home. The houses are perfect, comfortable and spotlessly clean. On arrival the fridge is always full of breakfast staples and Kim has fresh bread baking for guests as you walk into the house. Delightful! The property is amazing, beautiful gardens surround each house so you have privacy and a beautiful view. We love walking through the gardens and visiting the farm animals. Our kids are always eager to return to Tree-Elle every year to feed the animals and collect eggs every afternoon with Kim. Its great to watch the kids having so much fun in the outdoors and getting to do things they don’t normally do living in the city. There is a lot to keep everyone entertained close by. The beaches are great and Peter is always ready to tell us the best spots to go fishing. We will definitely keep coming back.

We have stayed at Tree Elle twice now and loved every minute of our stay. Walking in to the smell of fresh bread is absolutely wonderful! The fridge and pantry are generously stocked with essentials such as fresh milk, eggs, bread making supplies and cereals. The wood fire is cosy in cooler months and the rooms are comfortable.

Highly recommend a stay at Tree Elle.

We stayed at Barnhouse for 3 nights in April 2021. We were 3 families with grownup kids. Kim was very welcoming and helpful upon arrival. This place is absolutely beautiful. The secret garden is magical and the accommodation was spacious and clean. Upon entrance to the house, we were welcomed by the smell of fresh baking bread. The bread maker machine is a plus and we enjoyed making fresh bread in the afternoons. We look forward to staying again at this stunning place. Thank you Kim!
