I have attended a few events at Maiwand Reception Centre in Dandenong and have always been impressed, but my most recent experience truly stood out. I attended a fundraising Iftar dinner for Human Appeal, and the entire event was exceptionally well-organised. The management team was professional, attentive, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The traditional Afghan cuisine served was absolutely delicious — freshly cooked, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The welcoming atmosphere and high standard of service have left such a positive impression that I will definitely consider organising a future event here. Highly recommend Maiwand Reception Centre for any special occasion!

If I could leave a 0 star review, I would. The management were extremely rude. There were not enough workers available (only a few to serve 145 people). They weren’t accommodating to requests for water, cleaning up spillages and refused to turn up the air conditioning saying it was at maximum already. It was extremely hot throughout the night and they only turned it up once we said people might faint.
The bridal room was a disaster, it was extremely messy and needs to be renovated. Old furniture and the toilet was not clean. No place for the bride and groom to eat or even sit properly. We had to put our plates on our laps. No air conditioning. Only a fan. When I asked if there was another fan or a way to cool down the room they said no.
Overall, I would strongly advise against hosting any events here. We previously had events at maiwand reception under its old management and they were much better and accommodating in every regard. Deeply disappointed in the service and management. Save yourself the headache and do not book this place. They will just cause you immense stress on the night.

Poor service, rude staff, the owner claims A/C is on but it is not on so they can save on energy bills which leaves guests uncomfortable on a hot day. I do not recommend having a function here, your guests will NOT be treated with respect.

Such rude staff. Wouldn’t listen to a thing we said throughout the night. They walk straight past you when you ask for a plate or a spoon or to clean the safety hazard spills that are all over the dance floor. We ended up cleaning it ourselves - the GUESTS! With a broom since they said they didn’t have a mop in the entire centre! Didn’t listen to how we wanted the room separated - wasn’t flexible to change it afterward saying it was too much work. It really ruined our experience. Rude rude rude is all I can say. Both the workers and the owner. And so stingy as well. Lying that the Aircon is on full blast when we clearly can’t feel any air coming out of the vents. Took them 4 hours to finally turn it on - saving money at the expense of guests comfort (it was 32 degrees). Save yourself the embarrassment and the hassle and go elsewhere. These people don’t know how to run a business at all!

Great venue awesome host(Sher). Always made me welcome. This is my 6th time being as a guest as well as host been here and always have been over and above expectations.

Food is as usual awesome as well as place itself.

Looking forward for my next visit.

Attended an event at this reception. The workers were not helpful at all, no hospitality. They took forever just to bring water and were not very accomodating. It was very hot and they did not turn on the AC at all.
I would not recommend this reception for your events.

Not hospitable at all. Refused basic services and necessities such as Water and additional cutlery. Extremely hostile and rude staff. Would not recommend anyone coming here
