We had the most delicious meal here on a Wednesday night. Slow cooked beef ragout and pork sausages, both meals served with mash potatoes and we had a side of sauteed green veggies to share. The sausages were excellent and the beef in the ragout was slow cooked to melt in the mouth perfection. This meal really hit the spot. Would highly recommend this place. Prices were very reasonable and the food definitely above average pub fare.

Had a meal, seafood platter, $32 good price.
1 scallop cut in half then battered, 2 prawns and 1 piece of the thinnest fish you would ever see. It was no thicker than a pencil with large amounts of batter to make it look bigger.
Very poor.

We come down to Portland three or four times a year and we like to try a few meals over various times and locations to see if there’s any consistency with the meals. We have visited The Gordon, The Macs, The Royal and The Richmond Henty We don’t mind paying good money for good food and on all occasions I’ve attended this establishment the food is…. I wouldn’t say substandard but something you would expect in a soup Kitchen for the homeless. I’ve read a lot of reviews good and bad about this restaurant and there is a lot of complaints about the small portions of food, presentation and bad taste. I see the owner of the establishment usually responds to all feedback and despite his reassurances to those leaving bad feedback months earlier, the quality of food or service never seems to improve. I’m not saying the food is inedible I’m just saying it’s very ordinary and disappointing for the price that you pay. Lift your game and please don’t “reach out” to me to come back to give you another chance, I’ve already done that.

Menu very lac lustre, food is OK. I had salt n pepper squid. The salad was merely 3 pieces of lettuce. The food was cooked well. I had a table number outside. However, the waitress came out yelling the dish instead of the table number - caused confusion of everyone.

We took visitors out for lunch. They were excited to see the cruise ship in the harbour. We chose the Gordon and based on the reviews we chose the pork sausages. Unfortunately they didn’t have any mash (at 12pm) The waitress was very polite and apologetic. The room was almost empty, so perhaps this was a sign.
If I could suggest one thing it would be to train the bar staff in conversation and smiling. The young lady serving didn’t know there was a cruise ship in, hadn’t looked out the window and really couldn’t be bothered.
It’s very hard to find a pub in town that has service, quality food (not frozen steamed veggies) fresh and not just topped up with a plate of yellow chips.
The waitress was by far the best thing about our visit.

Ordered Garlic Prawns worst meal I have ever had. The rice was as terrible and the prawns looked like they come from a frozen packet. I also had to wait for my garlic sauce therefore my meal was cold. Would not recommend this place
