I stayed here with my Husband , Nanny and 3 children. It is a gorgeous house and Jean our host was very welcoming. The rooms are filled with gorgeous antique furniture and the house has an old world charm that is hard to describe with mere words. Jean made us a hot cooked breakfast, and it was fabulous! There were fruits, yoghurt and cereal as well as jams and juice. Very affordable and an awesome location only 50 metres to the lighthouse. (The house is the old keepers house). Beds are comfy and sheets/towels were immaculately clean. Very highly recommended 👍👍👍

We stayed for two nights over the Labor Day weekend in this pretty 1890's "cottage" - it is a large Victorian home, wonderfully presented, with about 4-5 bedrooms to choose from. Jean, the manager of nearly 15 years, lives on site and has a gift of being there only when needed (and then she is there!) FABULOUS cooked breakfast plus 5 sorts of cereal/yoghurt/fresh fruit/toast/fancy jams/plunger coffee. Gorgeous kitchen/breakfast room, our stunning huge bedroom was about twice the size of our very large bedroom at home, and our friends' room was smaller but incredibly cute - lavender/crystal/wrought iron beds. The guest lounge was also enormous and generously furnished in period pieces. The place felt like a home, not "accommodation". The house was fully booked the first night, and yet it was so quiet, we did not even hear the other guests. The beds were super comfy, the garden was a treat; Jean's suggestions for what to do and where to eat were spot on. Being an old house, it was shared bathrooms - the main bathroom modern Victorian styled, the second bathroom 1980's and more basic with a huge gold shower recess. LOADS of hot water, plenty of towels, dressing gowns provided - Jean made our beds and changed the towels even though it was only a 2 night booking (and she asked first if it was OK to do so)||||The house is a 50 metre walk to the historic light-house and lovely views over Portland bay, and a 5 minute drive to town.||||We felt like family, Jean is possibly the most talented B&B operator I have ever encountered - she is warm, generous, practical, and never intrusive. A truly wonderful stay.

We regret not planning our stay in Portland for a few nights. We arrived in. Chilly, damp afternoon and despite a personal bereavement, Jean was waiting for us with a tray of tea and coffee and treats and a lovely fire roaring. There was a choice of five bedrooms, all beautifully decorated and two well laid out bathrooms. We slept so well and after a walk around this very pretty neighborhood were treated to a fabulous breakfast. The stewed rhubarb was superb, Jean. You will not regret a stay at this beautiful B&B hosted by a truly warm and caring lady.

What a lovely welcoming stay. Jean the host had a fire going for us on arrival and a lovely cup of tea with some yummy treats. Served the way tea should be served in a china cup and saucer from a china teapot. The history of this old building was in every room. Everything was perfect in every way. Thank you Jean for being such a wonderful friendly host and making our stay so enjoyable. Breakfast was just the best.

We were driving up the Great Ocean Drive, arrived in Portland very late afternoon and were very fortunate in finding this bed and breakfast and we were not disappointed.||Built circa 1890 the building is a super example of an old cottage which has been well maintained and had very good TLC.||The beds were very comfortable and there is a lovely large lounge for one to rest, chat and have a drop of port.||The breakfast was just the job for a day's drive in front of us to Adelaide. The eggs and bacon cooked to our looking by a very friendly landlady.||Although, it is not on the main road it was well worth us finding it one block from the sea.||Give it a try.

The 2nd time around was equally as good as our first visit. Jean was still our host.Lovely friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was great as usual. Plenty of choice. On arrival was greeted with a cup of tea and some homemade treats.

The wife and I stayed here for two nights last month. Jean the manager is a gem and we really felt looked after during our stay. Lovely old blue stone home with 5 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Breakfast was just delightful

Arriving in Portland just before 5pm,we decided to go to Tourist Information (never before ) and were given a list from a very helpful lady .And ,luckily we chose Whalers Cottage B &B!!! We were to be greeted by the lovely Jean, after a tour of this wonderful old bluestone,we chose the largest room which was fantastic!The whole place has so much charm,and our host was born to the job..And we feel like we have known her forever!I would recommend Whalers to all, and the breakfast Jean serves is terrific !!!!
