While the atmosphere of this cafe is really lovely, the food I ordered was mediocre. Brownie was dense and dry, and the mushroom toasted sandwich was just really bad - barely toasted, unmelted cheese, and whole mushrooms that were cold and not cooked. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of staff around and no one really comes to check on you either so I didn’t really say anything. At $16 it’s pretty pricey for a toastie and absolutely not worth it.

If you are scrolling through reviews wondering where to go. I highly recommend this cafe. We just stumbled upon it by driving down the main street in Wagga and I have to say we were hugely impressed. Great menu fresh sourdough baked in house, freshly squeezed in house juices. Sweets and treats also made in house. Delish food. Great atmosphere. Clean toilets. A perfect cafe for families.

The food was nice, tho the brisket came out after the breakfast was served, but i got it in the end, so all good and service ok only let down was there was dried food on the menu. That was alittle off putting. But I still think it is worth 4 1/2 stars, but seeing that there's no half, I put 5.

The place is nice, with a nice interior and exterior and clean tables and chairs.

The cold press juices in their bottle at the fridges were uneven and different colours, although I didn’t like my drink, other people might.

The buffalo chicken meal had the sauce well done. But I found it hard to breathe when the sauce would secrete my throat. And I felt like coughing. Which I did.

The chips were good but a little more seasoning would have made it great. The veges were pickled and was not to my liking.

The service was wonderful. And the staff were really nice.
3/5 star for food
5 stars for service
5 star for atmosphere
4 stars out of all

Parking is easy. Menu is small. Using the qr codes isn't much help because the food has no description or photo.

Food came out separately and was mediocre. My coffee was burnt and awful. Milkshakes were nice.

Service was friendly but disorganised and the time it took was pretty decent.

Wouldn't recommend.

Extremely disappointed with our experience at Melba’s Bakehouse & Eatery. A zero star option would be used if it was available! We arrived well before their listed closing time on Google, yet the staff started packing up around us almost immediately clearing tables, turning off lights, and clearly trying to rush us out. It was uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

Most frustratingly, while my daughter was still eating, a staff member came over and bluntly said, “I’m closing now,” making it crystal clear we were no longer welcome — despite being there within the advertised hours. They ended up closing a full hour earlier than what’s stated online. This particular person is not cut out for this work and it shows through here very poor attitude

If you can’t stick to your posted hours, update them. And if you choose to accept customers close to closing time, basic courtesy should still apply. This was a poor experience that left a bad taste, and we won’t be back. An update on your hours on google isn’t that hard guys.

Nice convenient location on the main street of Wagga. There isn't too much positive to say about the food, unfortunately it was mediocre at best. The toast on all 3 plates was over done. The eggs were over done. Nothing terrible, but not great either. The milk shakes were ok, but very sweet. The table we sat at we noticed was extremely sticky and hadn't been cleaned sufficiently. There is plenty of seating and a kids play area.

Set on the main drag in Wagga Wagga’s busy shopping district, Melbas Bakery and Eatery Wagga was recommended to us by a local. Walking into the cafeteria-like interior, I had my doubts. How could mass-produced breakfast at this level have the artisan touches I crave? I settled in with a decent cappuccino ($4.50) made on their house-roasted Green Bean Coffee and prepared to choke on my assumptions.

Topped with more bacon than seemed proper, the house-made waffle ($16) was the fluffiest American waffle I’ve encountered since Las Vegas. Dripping in (real) maple syrup with oozing pats of Pepe Saya butter, this plate conquered me (but I gave it a really good bash).

Continuing the Americana theme, Memphis Boston beans ($18) threaded pulled smoked pork butt though chipotle beans in the best rendition of this dish I’ve eaten. It’s served with poached eggs and house-made sourdough, and cleverly garnished with lemon and pickled onions to aid digestion (it’s another big serve of food). We’d added on some chilli sauce that looked like an insipid faintly pink mayo. so we slathered it on, only to be thoroughly spanked for our assumptions.

Don’t judge books by their covers was clearly the lesson of the day. Recommended!

Edit 11/11/20: It’s super rare for me to revisit a spot when I’m travelling somewhere new, but I broke that rule for Melba’s. This means I’ve now tried all four items on their short breakfast menu, including this well-balanced breakfast wrap ($15). Avoiding the usual issues, it wasn’t too wet, with quality baby spinach keeping a bit of crunch against cheese, bacon, fried eggs, onion relish, chipotle aioli and a hashbrown. Served open, the brekky sandwich ($12) normally is a vegetable-leaning affair with mushrooms, onion, tomatoes, American cheese, a fried egg and Hollandaise. My dining companion got bacon and hashbrown envy so opted to customise, to good effect. This time I ordered my coffee ($4.50) strong and found it much better to drink. I reckon I ripped Melba’s off half a star when I only awarded them 4.5 stars last time ‘round... better fix that now!
