We visited Rolling Penny Cafe after reading some good reviews and wanted to see what the hype was about. It’s definitely not your typical cafe the vibe is unique, and the menu is quite different too. We ordered the Divorced Eggs ($24 + extra sausage ~$5-6) and the Smoked Cumberland Sausage ($26).

To be honest, the Cumberland sausage were just okay—basically two eggs on a muffin with a few thin slices with some sauce and sides. Nothing particularly stood out, and the portion felt pretty small for the price. The divorced eggs was also just mid, we added extra slices of sausage and it’s still a small serving (just a slice of bread with veggies and 1-2 eggs ) didn’t really justify the cost, and I probably wouldn’t order it again.

Overall, it’s a cute spot to hang out, have a coffee, and chill. If you’re into trying unique menus, it might be worth a visit, but personally, I found it a bit underwhelming for the price.

Great coffee and service and a very interesting menu...thats 5*, right? Not so fast, Turbo. The execution was ok but the dishes were good, not great. Had they been Under $20, no drama. But the prices are premium, so we'd expect the execution and design to follow. But hey, nice place, great coffee and service, decent food. Good place.

Food was alright but the divorced eggs are overhyped. Mid texture and flavour. The muffins and sausage weren’t bad and quite tasty. Chai was meh dont bother getting this tasted watery and not well brewed. Matcha was powdery and not good.

Some of the best food on King Street, in my opinion. Cute little cafe with great service and a lovely atmosphere. On weekends, the line for a table is out the door so I suggest getting there early or off-peak.

Food is great. Service is great. You're right on King Street so it's a good spot to stop and recharge. Just be wary there's very few tables.

These guys know how to cook. Had a lovely flat white to start and then got the divorced eggs, one of the tastiest brunch dishes I have had in ages. The verde and romanesco sauces just made the dish sing. Juice was freshly made and tasty. Could not go wrong eating here.

I wanted to like this café, but the experience just felt off. The staff did take our order and serve us, but they were really standoffish—no warmth, no basic friendliness, just a feeling like they didn’t really want to be there or talk to us.

On top of that, it wasn’t clear whether it was table service or not. My friend said it was, but when we sat down, no one came up to us, and we weren’t sure if we were supposed to go to the counter instead. It just made things more awkward, especially since it wasn’t busy, so there was no reason they couldn’t have been a little more welcoming or at least acknowledged us in some way. The whole vibe just felt uninviting.

The first coffee I had was great, but the second one tasted off—gritty, like they hadn’t cleaned the puck properly before pulling the shot. As a barista, I can tell when there’s a lack of care, and that’s what it felt like.

I don’t expect over-the-top service, just a bit of warmth and some basic communication. Hopefully, the owners take this as feedback because a welcoming atmosphere matters just as much as good coffee.

Had the divorced eggs for breakfast here today and it was absolutely divine and bursting with flavour haven’t had a decent breakfast like this in Sydney for so long. The staff are absolutely amazing and all are so helpful with dietary requirements, hands down to the owner a really good vibe & epic coffee!
