My experience with Susie was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I made a genuine mistake when booking the property, confusing Lilydale in Tasmania with Lilydale in Victoria — a completely different state. Once I realized the mix-up and that I wouldn’t be able to make it to Tasmania, I reached out six days before my arrival date to cancel. It was particularly upsetting because I had booked the property for a special occasion — my 22nd birthday — and was really looking forward to the trip.
Unfortunately, Susie was rigid and unsympathetic. Her cancellation policy offers 50% back if canceled 7 days prior, and I narrowly missed that by just one day, which was frustratingly close. Given the circumstances, I reached out to her in advance, explained the honest mistake, and requested a refund. She initially said she’d consider partial compensation if the dates were rebooked, which I appreciated — but that quickly changed.
When I contacted Airbnb just to clarify their policies, Susie accused me of going behind her back, even though I wasn’t trying to circumvent her or Airbnb. I simply needed information, especially since I was still trying to go about things the right way. After that, her tone became harsh and dismissive, and she rescinded her offer of a partial refund purely because I had asked for further clarification.
She also insisted I contact her via her personal phone number, which felt like an attempt to take the conversation outside of Airbnb’s platform — something that made me uncomfortable and seemed like a red flag. I believe that all communication around bookings should be transparent and kept on-platform for everyone's protection.
What’s most frustrating is Susie’s complete lack of empathy. The cost of living today is incredibly high, and as a young person, the amount I paid for this trip — that I couldn’t even attend — was a huge financial hit. This was meant to be a celebration, and instead it turned into an expensive, stressful mess. Her behavior throughout came off as money-hungry, prioritizing profit over fairness and basic human understanding.
While I understand hosts need to protect themselves with cancellation policies, there’s a way to do that with professionalism and compassion — neither of which I received here.
Plans change and life happens — Susie is not understanding of that. I would absolutely not book here again. God forbid anything unexpected happens in your life, this woman does not care.

Incredibly unique eco accommodation. All the amenities are sustainable and there is so much to do! Watch the wildlife, play some music, sit and draw or just relax with a movie or book. Location is fantastic, right in the middle of wine country. Could not recommend this place enough!

Wow. A rare gem of accommodation. Self contained in the hills of Lilydale. Lots of wildlife around. Only things to aware of is that there's no internet and you have to make your own fire... Both of which are probably good things.
