What a haven! John and Elizabeth’s home is truly one of a kind. They have created a little oasis for themselves and the guests that are lucky enough to stay on their property. The property is cosy and comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing stay! We loved how eco conscious everything was and would absolutely recommend staying to anybody! Thanks again for all the little thoughts - milk in the fridge when we arrived, some local wine to try & even some freshly laid eggs from their property! Hope we are lucky enough to come back one day 🙂

This lovely ground-floor apartment is a real home from home. The owners, John and Elizabeth Ure have equipped the whole place to a very high standard, with many extras, such as DVD player and DVD’s, books, board games, baby equipment, barbecue etc. The kitchen has everything you could need. We were welcomed with a plate of home-made cookies! You have your own private entrance and shady terrace and full use of the beautiful garden and pool. Children’s play areas are carefully fenced for safety. There are many lovely places to visit in the area and we had a wonderful stay there. I would highly recommend this holiday home.

We were looking for an overnight stay near Newcastle and were astonished to find such a wonderful place as Werekataba. Set on one hectare of tranquil gardens shared with the owner's residence this 2-bedroom accommodation has a full kitchen, beautiful bathroom and a comfortable lounge. Inside there are games, books and DVD's galore and outside is a private BBQ area. The hosts are as friendly as can be and provide a range of kitchen ingredients as well as freshly-baked biscuits. This is a real taste of country in the city and well worth a longer stay. Children will love it.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone travelling to the region. Prior to our arrival we had clear communication from John with details for our arrival as we would be coming in late. The property has everything you need and more. I enjoyed having our own space, yes it is joined onto the back of the house connected by a door, but we heard nothing and had our own entry. Very private|The property was very spacious and had everything. A full kitchen with condiments, cereals and fresh milk. The lounge was full of books, videos and movies. So much to do, with so little time. Lounge was very comfy to sit back and watch TV. The bedrooms were spacious with their own fan/heating and electric blankets. The bathroom was huge with spa bathtub. Wished I had time to use it. There was also a laundry and an outside patio area with table/chairs. |The property is located on 2 acres with beautiful gardens and a pool you could use when warm.|I found this accommodation so peaceful and with everything there, we really didn’t need to go anywhere. |We will definitely stay here again when in the area.|Great value and thank you John.

My sister and I have just spent a second short holiday at Werekataba, as this lovely, well equipped apartment is an ideal place for a peaceful few days. Again we found all home comforts there and were touched that John remembered us and put out some classical music CDs he thought we would enjoy. I was shocked to read the review from Sue Tandy saying she had been disappointed, and urge others not to be influenced by her unkind comments. John and Elizabeth are kind and thoughtful hosts and we would certainly recommend Werekataba to others.

Very disappointing!

The misleading advert/website led us to believe we were hiring/renting a 4 bedded private accommodation with a private pool. When in reality the property is part of the owner's home, blocked off by a locked door and the pool is located in the owner's garden and you have to ask to use it! There are not enough seats outside for 4 guests and the area is very dusty. Also very little cupboard/wardrobe space for a family of 4. Nevertheless we made the best of it as we had booked for 9 nights and spent full days away from the property at the numerous beautiful beaches in Newcastle.

Then the icing on the cake..... we paid to hire the 4 bedded accommodation at the full fixed price as advertised on the website explaining at the time of booking that our 2 sons were joining my husband and I at a later date. To our amazement as we were leaving and handed back the keys, we were asked for an additional $50 for the extra guests. I explained we had hired this 4 bedded accommodation for the full asking price and when our sons joined us there were only 4 of us so no additional guests as stated on their website and at no time was there any mention that our son's would be classed as "additional guests"!

We shouldn't have paid this extra money as in hindsight we feel we have been scammed.... especially as we cleaned the property and washed the bed linen and towels before we left!!!

Had a great time with my wife and then 2 year old. Booking again.

What stood out:
House very nice, I appreciate someone who has picked designs that match. Love the Bathroom and it's all non standard and wonderful. Cosy not hotel.
Play areas on site.
Chickens which my daughter loved.
close to trees, it felt like a different setting.

Downsides:
One thing that bothered us was 1 queen bed and 2x single beds. It would be great if there were a bigger second bed. It's a really minor thing as I remember sleeping like a log and waking up really late.

We had the most wonderful stopover at Werekataba. Our host John greeted us with freshly made brownies and showed us the features of the accomodation. The bedrooms rooms were large and the bathroom included a spa and amenities. The accomodation is very warm and homely. The gardens and wildlife are magnificent . We were offered a high chair, cot and baby bath for our little one which made our stay easy. John went way above and beyond to help us which was greatly appreciated. We will return!
