My sister and I stopped in for a drink on our outing to the NSW/SA border from Broken Hill. The publican is welcoming and friendly. It's great to spend a little time in these remote country places. Cockburn is on the South Australian side of the border and has a population of just 6 people. We had an enjoyable time chatting while enjoying a drink.

Thanks!

We stayed here one night while passing through SA/NSW as it was conveniently right on the border. We weren’t given very clear directions on how to get to camp area, even though quite obvious once we found the site it was a little confusing and staff weren’t very helpful in explaining. The facilities were ok, showers recently upgraded, however quite dirty and toilets had no toilet paper. No water provided but power available for $20. It did the job for the night but personally would have kept driving to Broken Hill if we had the time.

A beautiful sunset though!

This place is a hidden gem. Tucked away from the main road, a small simple place.
Had a very friendly chat with the owner. They explained tap beer will go flat as there are no customers. Explained the struggles of running a business in the outback k.

Best owner, great service and in general a perfect stop that is near but not in Broken Hill.

Isolated , but the sunset over the desert was breathtaking.
The person who appeared to be living near the pub turned on the mower at twilight then proceeded to mow the gravel (yes, gravel- there was no grass) at their ‘nature strip’ for hours, well into the night, which felt creepy.
There was no internet service, which added to the feeling of general unease- especially the following morning, when a white car very slowly passed us by, clearly casing us out and making no attempt to hide it.
Thankfully the police car arrived at the pub and stayed there for quite some time.

The publican demanded the credit card information to be written in a ledger book in order for the keys to the showers to be issued.
I was horrified to see all previous travellers’ names and credit card information. No measures were taken at all to protect these travellers’ data. Just one photo away from getting into the wrong hands.
The public toilet amenities were dirty as the photo shows and no toilet paper was provided.

Just Facts|We (2 females) stayed one night in a twin room (room 8) on 27th Jan 2024. I just want to add this review because the other reviews that we based our decision to stay on, are deceptive and inaccurate.||Positives:|The beds were comfortable|The aircon worked|The shower was hot|It's a good distance after a day's drive from Streaky Bay|There are kitchen facilities if you are prepared and bring your own stuff although the fridge wasn't on|Bathmat, towel and soap provided|Washing machine with laundry powder was in the bathroom|There were powerpoints in the room||Negatives:|When I rang to make the booking they said it was $40 but when I got there they said it was $80. The stay is not worth $80, it is overpriced and not good value for money|There are no rooms at the pub, the accommodation is in some quarters a little down the road|The room was not clean to a usual accommodation standard - the floors were not clean and there was dust and cobwebs on the window-sill and outside|The window blind was old and torn and tatty|The room was very small - one single bed was against the wall and the other single bed was 90 degrees squashed against it|The water is not suitable for drinking but there was a box of spring water in the kitchen|There was nowhere to have dinner, the pub did not appear to serve meals. You need to bring your own food to eat.|There is a urinal in the bathroom. The basin flows into the urinal to drain.|Overall cleanliness not very good|Everything felt old, tired and dusty|Calthrop weeds everywhere - spiky thorns|||Just so you know what to expect - it is not a typical pub-stay with rooms in the pub and a shared bathroom down the hallway.|This place would suit single men who just need somewhere to sleep for the night

Great little place out of Broken Hill very historic old school and pub. All a bit run down but cheap camping pay at the pub. Clean toilets and hot showers at night time only!

Lovely little pub at risk of closure. RV camp across the road with power. Very cosy and great stories from publican. Never looks open but it is. Give it a try
