It's The Palace Hotel. Over 135 years old. The building, like all the Victorian masonry festooned buildings in Brocken Hill. It looks crisp and new. But the 135 year lived in bits are showing there beteena. The bed in room 115 is new, the sheets are crisp and the electrics are a 20th. Century after thought, as you would expect from a 19th century monolith. The wash hand basins are a tribute the plumbers who upgraded the pictures and wash stands of the 1800s. Surviving over a century as they gently corode away. They must be original as they match.|The 1st floor balcony is as long and as high as the celings are massive. We were dwarfed by its magnificence.|It survives 7 monarchs. All ancient Victorian hotels are noisy venues. We asked if there was any live music on the Sunday and Monday the answer as no and that was perfect.|For $105 a night with a fridge included (a modern addition), ยฃ52 10/- , in pre decimal (1966) money you can be part of the evolutionary transformation of this monolith into the 22nd Century.|NB all the meals in Broken Hill are about the same price.

(Restaurant review)

Positives:
- This is by far the best pub-style food in Broken Hill.
- The Filets Mignon were the best I had in a very long time, even though I frequently visit restaurants that are nominally much "classier".
- The servers are helpful and friendly.

Negatives: On the pricier side, and you should expect the portion sizes to be closer to a bistro than to a pub.

Great service, tasty food, and this place is full of friendly faces! A must-visit to take in the incredible murals and have a beer. Absolutely incredible place steeped in history, you certainly donโ€™t want to miss this!

Didn't stay at the Palace on this trip but dropped in for a few drinks to get over a long hot drive. Really friendly staff who chatted away on both our stops and fair priced cold beers as well. Very surprised how quiet it was for a Friday night and more surprised that we saw no customers in the restaurant? Don't want to see the Palace disappear as we will be back next time in the Hill!

Great atmosphere, the food needs work.
I ordered a chicken schnitzel for almost $30 a yet it was the smallest schnitzel no bigger then my palm of my hand and I have a small hand. The chip quantity was sad too. By the end my whole family were still hungry and had to go to maccas. Not something we wanted to do when you just spent $30 per meal.
The jukebox was a great part of the experience same as the drinks it was just the food that let us down.

The Palace Hotel sits in the main street of Broken Hill and has a lot of history. Great atmosphere. We did not stay at the hotel only dined in the restaurant. Good service but we could only give the schnitty a 5/10.

Popped in to get a photo of the famous staircase and was blown away by all the art work. We had no idea. Staff were lovely and left a donation.
