My favourite venue in the Meander Valley, this place is a gem! Foodies heaven with delicious meals beautifully presented. Justin creates some of the best food I've ever tasted!!!

Great selection of locally brewed and crafted beverages. Staff are friendly and attentive.
The decor is welcoming and stylish, great for group gatherings.
Once a month there's live music and a banquet feast that is always phenomenal.

Love the ethos of the Wandering Trout - supporting local, high quality Tasmanian producers.

Accomodation is very basic for all..
For dinner set menu.. if you lucky you will get your favorite n nice meal.. we cant choose. The portion was small, and am still feel hungry after dinner 🙁 so its kind of over price.. eventho its kind of master chef style.. but I think its still too small.. especially when you just back from hiking at Cradle Mt. Only us (2 ppl) at that evening in the resto. No one else.. feel weird tho.. not recommended to hv dinner at Wandering Trout.

What a great experience this was. On the 11th December 2024 … a Wednesday night. We were fortunate that there was only a few others drinking there that night and just us and another couple dining. A lovely personal experience with great company, great food and lovely personal service.

We booked lunch here on way through to Cradle Mountian. Food fabulous great flavours beautifully presented. Great selection of local beers and spirits. Hospitality and conversation a big plus. Will come again when next in area.

This place is looking move up from being known as a "hidden gem" to being a "must go". And rightly so.

We had the 3 course chef's selection and it was delightful.

A wagyu carpaccio, followed by lamb cutlets w/ broad bean mash and char-grilled zucchini, all with a variety of well selected sauces and dressings.

The flavours were bold but not overbearing.

Dessert was a beautifully rich creme brulee.

Would absolutely reccommed to those heading between Devonport and Cradle Mountain as a great spot for lunch.

Left a review for the dining, but the accommodation is worth a review too. It's clean, well-appointed and comfortable. It was exactly what I was looking for, and was good value - I really enjoyed my stay. Service was excellent too - friendly but unobtrusive. The free breakfast in the morning was also really appreciated before my long hike!

Stayed at the Trout either side of a multi-day hike in Walls of Jerusalem National Park. Location is excellent for that, or for Cradle Mountain.

Off the bat, the service was extremely friendly and I felt very welcomed, and that set the tone for the rest of my stays.

Food was incredible - genuinely some of the best food I have had in years, and I travel a lot and visit a lot of restaurants! Some of the sauces/garnishes to dishes were unexpectedly exceptional, so even when the main part of the dish was done, I was still chasing the rest of it around the plate so as to not miss out. I have seen some other reviews say it was expensive, but my experience was very much that it was excellent value for money. The photos of the different dishes I had across the nights I was there don't really do the meals (or their presentation) justice.

Accommodation was lovely, exactly what I was after, and good value.

Could not recommend more highly, and I will be staying again next time I'm down in Tas. Thank you again, Trout team!

Random stop for us, at this lovely inn. The front of house staff and the chief chef were both very welcoming and friendly, with interesting stories to tell. We had dinner,which was super tasty, beautifully presented and an imaginative menu. We had just walked in, no pre-booked and the food was still speedy and very fresh. We loved it and the price was amazingly fair for the high quality that we had. We also tried a few of the beers and they were also amazing. Also tasty and with individual characters. Would definitely recommend.
