My recent stay at Gate Away Hotel was deeply disappointing, primarily due to the appalling state of cleanliness throughout the property.

Upon arrival, I was horrified to find our initial room in a disgusting condition. The toilet was visibly soiled with fecal matter and even had hair on it. The shower was covered in mold, and the mirror appeared to have been hastily wiped with a towel, leaving obvious streaks and dirt behind.

After complaining, we were moved to another room, but the situation hardly improved. The replacement room had a terrible odor throughout, and the toilet was still dirty. The overall cleanliness standards were completely unacceptable for any hospitality establishment, let alone one charging for accommodations.

I want to clarify that I don't blame the housekeeping staff for these issues. This appears to be a management problem, where staff likely aren't given adequate time to properly clean rooms or the resources to perform deep cleaning of critical areas like bathrooms. Basic maintenance such as mold removal from showers seems to be completely neglected.

The hotel management needs to seriously reassess their cleaning protocols and staffing levels. These aren't minor oversights but fundamental failures in hotel operations and guest safety.

Due to these serious hygiene issues, I cannot recommend Gate Away Hotel to anyone and will certainly not be returning. A hotel's primary obligation is to provide clean, safe accommodations, and Gate Away completely failed to meet even this basic standard

A wonderful room. Large and spotlessly clean. Welcoming staff.could not fault one thing. Will be staying again next week and would recommend to anyone wanting top class accommodation.

Stayed here for my wedding night. Room was very clean and comfortable but the outside noise was crazy. Being a Friday night there was loud music til well after 3am. Other than that check in wa great and staff was friendly. The hotel was clean enough apart from dirty wine glasses everywhere

A very convenient location but not one you would want to briefly depart from, since there are not sufficient parks and the yard was full. There were steps to access the building from the carpark and, this door is sometimes locked. The building looks dated but has all it needs to be a comfortable stay. As we had an early morning, we chose the convenience of the onsite restaurant and entered as soon as it opened. We were the 1st/2nd there at 5:30 and were assured by the waitress that orders would be taken at our table. We arranged to grab drinks from the bar while she set up the table. Before long the room had filled. Many people were waiting a long time at their tables without drinks. We had drunk ours and were still waiting to be served. Before long everyone in the room had been served and we had not. Some approached the counter to put their order in ahead of others. I ended up using Tap & Pay because wait staff were avoiding our table. Not all items on the menu were available on this service. Afterwards a waitress appeared to take our order. I advised her Id used Tap & Pay because of our frustration at the lack of service and that everyone else had been served. She apologised, telling us she’d been working her way around the room (gesturing from nearest the doorway anticlockwise to us last). I was unusually blunt, telling her thats not the way serving works. After that there were 3 wait staff but they still tended to certain tables only. When orders were finally taken the chef did well to send out lovely meals in a timely manner. The kids were by this stage tired and waiting for their ice cream. They approached the counter for this. While waiting for these, I used Tap & Pay (couldnt get the attention of wait staff again) to order a dessert at 7:07. At 8:03 we were fed up with waiting and approached the counter to request it be refunded so that we could return to our room. The waiter insisted it could be sent as room service but after 2.5hrs we’d had enough. He went to the kitchen and found that one was ready to be handed to me. The staff here are really polite and the meals are really great but noone expects to be ignored for 2.5hrs over dinner.|Checkout was again very friendly and helpful.

I really don't want to share about this treasure. Hidden away it was the best accommodation I have experienced in a longtime. The staff are wonderful very helpful. The location is central city. The river view rooms at the front are lovely. I also had a city view room which was good as well. The place is so clean. It is a little older, but you would not know that once you enter. The rooms are clean, the showers large as is the space in the rooms. All extras provided no mini bar but those goods available. One room had a huge spa bath regret not using it. The same room was all automated, the curtains the windows, lights you just pressed a button, very impressive. The other room was excellent as well, but a bit cheaper. However, the pricing is great value for what you get. The bed was great so too the pillows. The most important thing, the food. Because I was busy I choice to eat my room. The food was excellent very fresh and plenty of it. One of the mornings I chose the breakfast buffet which had so much to choose from excellent. The only little complaint is parking, there is parking but fills up, Car park on street BUT BEWARE, otherwise they will see me again.

Having missed the spirit of tasmania, we booked into the gateway hotel. Upon arrival, we had been riding our motorbike in the rain for hours to get to the boat. We were cold, wet and very miserable. We encountered Seb behind the counter. He was absolutely wonderful. Seb upgraded us to a room with a spa so we could thaw out and made our checkout 4pm the next day...all free of charge. We ordered dinner from room service which was so well priced and delicious. In the morning we ordered room service for breakfast. Again only took 15 minutes, great value for money and delicious. The lady at reception this morning was also fantastic....we could not fault one thing about our stay at gateway

Stayed here for 2 nights and found it great.
Nice staff in hotel and restaurant, food was good, dinner and breakfast.
Nice comfortable, clean room with great shower.
Easy, plentiful parking.
Will use again next visit

Cari (hope that’s spent correctly) and Darren and genuinely amazing, they were by themselves on a busy Wednesday night and made a person dining by themselves feel welcome. They are a credit to the company and deserve a massive shoutout. They deserve 5 stars alone
