Great location right inside the national park—nature lovers will be thrilled. Wildlife is everywhere, which also means… so is their poop. Still, it’s a peaceful and refreshing place to unwind. Bonus points for being able to park the car right at the cabin door—no hiking with your luggage through the wilderness!

Perfect retreat in the Cradle Mountain National Park. Very remote but so close to Dove Lake and wombats. Plenty of wildlife and peace and quiet and wombats. Cabins well equipped and shared bathroom facilities excellent. And wombats. Will definitely be back.

A very moving place to visit. To read their story and dedication to wildlife and nature's preservation and to each other was heart-warming.

Our best stay in Tasmania. Hot showers outside, fully equipped kitchen to cook your pasta meal in the evening and prepare sandwiches for the lunch on the trail. Oh and the trails start pretty much from here 🙂 no need for the car or the shuttle. Daily visits from wombats and wallabies are an added bonus.

10/10 stay. The photos show a true representation of the cabins. The spot hands down the best Australia has to offer. After 7pm the last bus leaves and you have the park pretty much all to yourselves. Once in a lifetime opportunity to hang out with wombats just you & your family. We put our caravan into storage to stay here and so glad we did. |Bring your own water and more food than you think you need.|We also caught the bus to peppers to have a drink by the fire it was beautiful.|Bookings hard to come by so log in the day the bookings open to secure.|CAUTION when entering park you have to follow the park buses, we thought we took a wrong turn to Waldheim so caught back up with the bus only to be told off by the bus driver who was quiet unreasonable.

Simple walkers huts sleeping either 4 6 or 8.
Each comes with bunk beds an oven and stove top. Fridge, toaster kettle and crockery.
Basic heater with struggled in very cold weather, but better than nothing!
Great opportunity to stay inside the national Park and experience the peace when everyone has gone home.
Very clean communal showers and toilets just a few steps away. With great water pressure, temperature and even electric heater inside.
Wildlife everywhere. We just sat at the Day hut this evening with a glass of wine and counted about 15 wombats.
Even some basic phone reception if you need it! And our hut also had power
points to charge.

When family accommodation in the area for 4 nights is 1-3k, this is an affordable and welcome alternative. As other reviewers have said - basic but comfortable and cosy, right in the middle of nature, and the closest accommodation there is to Dove Lake and the start of most walking tracks. If you are unhappy here you are unhappy with life.||||I noticed there were only 2 bad reviews: "can tell the cabins are run by government" - well yes, because nobody could make a profit out this pricing, and: "we didn't feel that there was any real service provided to make customers feel special" - uh customers are paying about $25 per head and getting a warm and well appointed cabin right in the middle of the National Park, and so what is expected for that price - a massage?||||Cabins are clean, tidy and warm and have all that is needed for cooking. The beds were comfortable. We stayed in Wornack which had power points and Optus access only about 50m from the doorway (Telstra I'm not sure about). It was nice to be "off the grid" for most of the time, but able to trol down the road to receive messages. The shower block was a stone's throw away - facilities clean and the shower was hot.||||Wildlife abound, walks at your doorstep, and the shuttle bus only a ten minute walk down the track.||||There's a fridge and oven with hotplates in each cabin, and so we were able to have a cheese platter on return from our walks, bake pizza in the oven for tea, make some mulled cider on the cooktop and bake a cake or slice every evening (TIP remember to bring eggs, the soda water hack isn't all that successful). If you were staying at the lodge a cheese platter, pizza, dessert and drinks for 4 people would be upwards of $300. There's a place for luxury accommodation but Waldheim is perfect for families to get out in nature and be self-sufficient - without completely roughing it in tents.||||My tips would be to book a slightly bigger cabin than you need (eg the 6 bunk cabin for 4 people) just so there's a bit more space to put your gear and move around the cabin. Be wary of taking snorers or at least have a few workarounds - ear plugs and or folding seats in the car. Don't go with anyone you don't love - these aren't large spaces. Take a few packs of cards or other games to enjoy in the evening. And yes, a pair of thongs or slides for nocturnal trips to the toilet.||||We loved our visit and can't wait to go back.
