Very interesting stay here.

The trip up is through gravel road but very manageable. Look out for the signs.

Room is as per pictures and very clean. The bathroom is definitely on the small side. Bed is nice. Views are great.

Heard the restaurant is a new addition. Food is Japanese inspired and tastes delicious. Tad pricey for sure but with good service and good views.

The grounds will have wild wallabies daily if you’re lucky. We caught the Aurora at the restaurant as well so pretty lucky.

Would recommend a stay for an interesting experience. I wouldn’t term this luxury but for the experience and views, I would place this above most hotels.

The cabin is facing the ocean with great view. Stargazing and sunrise coffee in veranda was such a special experience. Every room is provided with a telescope.
I saw the comment mentioning the cabin being small but everything was effectively laid out with modern and simple furniture. Warm and cozy.

Japanese restaurant is one of the best.
Satori was such an amazing hostess with attention to detail, warm friendly and engaging.
She represented Japanese hospitality to its highest. All the staff provided quality service.

No. Just no. Do not confuse this with the freycinet lodge down the road. There is a 4 k gravel road to the “resort” (it’s not!), minimalist tiny cabin and no true on site dining option. The bathroom was clean but barely adequate. We have lived on sailboats so we understand “compact” but was not to a “resort” standard. You must go down the gravel access road to go to Cole’s bay for cafe or restaurant options. The on site restaurant is under different ownership from the “resort” and only offers gourmet Japanese dinners, omikase or shabu shabu. Breakfast offering equally minimal, a continental with a choice of 3 hot breakfasts, 2 of which were Asian. No argument with the possible quality, just not what we came to Tasmania to experience. Self catering difficult. We did try. Cabin had microwave but no cookware at all, not even a salad bowl. Fridge and microwave only, hob covered and assumed out of use. The young people handling reception were charming, as usual.

We stayed here in January. Lovely location but a hotel under renovation charging high luxury hotel prices. Grounds not maintained and building materials everywhere. Accommodation was a Big4 cabin at best with a hot water service at your front door, not even a king bed rather two single put together. Come back in 3 years it might match the quality marketing they have put behind it. The owner has invested in art and a grand entrance before the accommodation and main areas. Very very disappointed and do not recommend staying here.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. We recommend the food but the restaurant needs updating to create an experience that matches the price and quality of the food. Chef, you were fabulous.

For readers reference the ‘entry level’ room the owner mentions we booked was over $800 per night. I did not take photos of the room but it was not entry level luxury. We did see the retreat cabjns they reference and I would say they did look well done.

So disappointing! I told my husband we were staying in a luxury resort! It was simply the opposite! Cabin so small….nothing like advertised on the internet. Hardly room for 2 people to move! 4 k dirt track in and out of the Resort. Restricted menu in Japanese Restaurant hardly suitable for the Tasmanian wilderness. Long drive to Coles Bay for meals. Very disappointing costing $600 per night for small cabin. Money 💰 taken at time of booking!! Felt we were set free when we left! Unfortunately weather not good so fogged in at Mt Paul …. no views.
Also I especially noticed one of my husbands designer shirts missing when we arrived at next accommodation!
Not a Resort to recommend!!!

We absolutely loved our 2-night stay at the Freycinet Resort last week. We stayed in one of the new bush retreat cabins, which was very private and had a fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge area, modern bathroom and a very large bedroom with an extremely comfortable king size bed. Our booking included breakfast, which was comprised of a great range of granola and cereals, yoghurt, bread, juices as well as a choice of cooked breakfasts. The resort has stunning views of the Freycinet Peninsula. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again if we come to Freycinet in the future.

The establishment started operations in 2019. It is located at the top of Mount Paul that is reached from Coles Bay Road via a 4 km drive along an unsealed gravel road. In late December, road work was being carried out on the road. On site construction works were also in progress during our stay.||||The 8 “Ocean View Studios” are closely spaced cabins located in a row at one edge of a gravel clearing of about 200 m in diameter. These cabins have a very compact layout and interior floor space ( ~25 sq m, see photos). From the cabins, the shoreline at Friendly Beach about 3 km away visible through the sliding doors at the foot of the bed. Other windows look into the adjacent cabin. Detailed photos of the interior of these studios are not shown on the resort website.||||The other 2 lodges called “Hazard View Retreats” have twice the interior floor area with many photos of the interior featured on the resort website.||||Guests who chose the Ocean View Studios based on photos of the Hazard View Retreats and descriptions of the Studios on the resort website may need to revise their expectations.||||The Freycinet Resort was previously called the Freycinet Eco Retreat which is probably a more accurate description of the establishment.||||The area around the 8 Studio cabins has been cleared of vegetation (presumably as a fire safety measure) so the unsealed gravel ground is dusty when windy as the mountain top site is quite exposed.||||On the opposite side of the clearing is the reception office and the Mount Paul Restaurant. The resort accommodation and the restaurant appear to be separate business enterprises.||||Included breakfast at the restaurant comprises self-service continental offerings. In addition, one can select 1 of 4 available hot dishes: poached eggs, French toast, chicken rice porridge and vegetarian udon noodles. The latter 2 are quite delicious with a Japanese accent. ||||The restaurant is licensed and the service is friendly and attentive. The furnishings make extensive use of local timber with Japanese themed artefacts in the decor. The glass frontage offers a panoramic view.||||Dinner comprises 2 Japanese fixed price offerings: either omakase or shabu-shabu. Stunning Views across Freycinet National Park and the Japanese 7 course meal and Shabu Shabu well worth the money!! There is currently construction work going on, which we were not made aware of but we did book through a third party, Luxury Escapes. Despite that, we had a great stay and would come back.
