I stayed at the Astor for a good part of a week in a room with an ensuite. The Hotel is run by the most amazing Tilde and the Astor oozes ambiance with her eclectic style and interior decor. The Astor has many amazing original features. Do no expect a five star hotel. The place is clean, relatively comfortable and excellent value in a prime central location in Hobart - walking distance to the CBD, docks and Salamanca Markets. People staying here actually chat to each other like a little family. I would recommend the Astor to anyone who likes old world charm and very interesting owners and guests.

We had the most delightful stay for two nights at the Astor Hotel and this will now be our home away from home in Hobart. The hosts, Tildy and Neil, were lovely (warm, chatty and funny) which made us feel so welcome and comfortable immediately upon arrival. The hotel is so beautiful, character filled, with a period feel sitting the historic beauty of the deco building. It is immaculately clean, tidy and comfortable. It is so well located in the central part of Hobart with lots of great restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. I recommend you call or email to book directly with them. Thanks for a lovely, relaxing stay.

I loved staying here , it’s full of old world charm. Run by Tildy and Neil, an awesome team. It’s lovely and comfy, clean and reasonably priced and in the best position in Hobart for walking everywhere. I highly recommend The Astor Private Hotel.
Request a room at the back, they are quieter.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Astor Hotel for two nights, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The hotel exudes a stunning heritage charm, reminiscent of The Chateau at Tongariro National Park, though on a more intimate scale. Its vintage features offer a refreshing contrast to the abundance of modern hotels today, making it feel like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history.

As you ascend the staircase to the reception, you're greeted with the warmest and most genuine welcome we've ever experienced. The staff were absolutely incredible—friendly, personable, and full of humor that kept us smiling throughout our stay. Their exceptional hospitality set the tone for the entire visit.

Our room was bright, airy, and perfectly showcased the hotel’s heritage character. Every detail was thoughtfully maintained, and the cleanliness was impeccable. We especially adored the intricate tile work in the bathroom and the rich red vintage carpet, which added to the timeless charm.

Staying at the Astor Hotel was the highlight of our trip and truly made our visit extraordinary. The exceptional staff and the enchanting atmosphere have left a lasting impression on us, and we can’t wait to return. This is a place we’ll treasure and recommend wholeheartedly.

Old world comfort and charm in a central CBD location. Creatively decorated by the lovely couple who run the Astor - great characters ready to entertain guests with humour, local knowledge and stories. Immaculately clean rooms and bathrooms and a filling breakfast. Perfect place to relax after a bushwalking trip.

I spent my first solo trip to Hobart at the Astor Hotel. Tildy and Neil made me feel so welcome. Part of the thing that makes the place great is their hospitality. I booked a double room with a shared bathroom and it was perfect for what I needed. I am obsessed with the decor. Neil said this was owing to Tildy’s skills, and it shows. You can tell she’s put her love and thought into how the place is styled. Highly recommend for solo female travellers.

We stayed quite a while ago but I was just going through photos and realised I forgot to do a review. We loved this hotel. We stayed at 2 hotels in Hobart. First a traditional chain hotel then the Astor. We enjoyed the Astor so much more so much charm and character.
