We love this pub so much. It’s cosy fire and ambience is so inviting. The food is fantastic and everyone is so very friendly! We particularly love being looked after by Hayden he’s so entertaining and brilliant at his job! I have been dreaming of trying the hock which I did so recently.. it was amazing! A great little part of Hobart’s history.

Went here due to a recommendation from a local - exactly what we were looking for. An honestly good pub feed in an authentic pub setting. Counter meals available, open wood fire in the main bar area, and a separate area around the back of the bar if you're wanting a quieter dining experience.
The food was great, and the staff were all friendly.
If I visit Hobart again, this place will be on my list of places to go to for a meal.

We visited New Sydney Hotel after hearing great recommendations for their chicken parmi, and it did not disappoint! The dish was absolutely satisfying. We also tried the pork belly, which had good flavor but was a bit dry. The crispy potatoes were enjoyable at first, but the seasoning didn’t carry through to the bottom of the bowl. On the bright side, the apple cider on tap was excellent. The atmosphere was lively, with a great vibe and nostalgic old-school music.

This bar has a great Irish pub vibe cozy, welcoming, and full of character. They’ve got Guinness on tap, along with a solid lineup of local brews and their own house lager, which is definitely worth a try. The whisky selection is top-notch, and I was impressed to see they’re a member of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. A perfect spot for a pint or a proper dram
will definitely be back!

-New Sydney Hotel, Hobart (22/4/25): “The best Parma in Hobart”, I will be the judge of that. At $29 + $2.50 for leaves on the side, the price was a bit of shock considering the apparent deflated prices in the big apple. The chips were not overly chunky as I’d usually like and were over salted. They were however very well cooked. The salad was very basic, only a few types of lettuce leaves, lacking the other regular components I’d expect in a salad. The dressing was quiet interesting, tasting like a honey garlic vinaigrette of some sort. The overly salted chips paired perfectly with the salad which I think not only saved saved the sides, but elevated the dish. Upon first look, the Parma was average size and thickness, nothing suggesting it’s the Hobart crown jewel. The cheese was spot on, reasonably thick, great texture, quality and toasted beautifully. Cutting into the schnitzel revealed a crumb that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inner. The chicken was ridiculously juicy, at one point ejecting fluid off the plate. The taste experience began before even eating: the volatiles of the smoked ham instantly made themselves know to the olfactory sense. The Napoli sauce was layered generously and retained a smoky flavour from the ham. It was slightly sweet and not at all bitter. The sweet napoli, smoked ham, succulent breast, light crumb and quality cheese made for a great Parma experience. All elements of the dish tied in exceptionally well. I’m not sure what I could suggest other than a more diverse salad, less salty chips and a larger schnitzel to fill the meal out. This was a very good Parma and a great Irish pub packed with paraphernalia. This Parma is in ‘too much of a good thing territory’. It had a rich flavour, was very unique and refined, so should be eaten infrequently and enjoyed according, not a once a week feed as other high scorers in this list. Overall, I’m pleasantly surprised and very impressed - 9.0/10. The best score yet.

Stumbled upon this pub when looking for a place for dinner in Hobart with our two young kids. Atmosphere was fun, fully decked out with Irish decorations.
Food was great, huge portions. Wonderful service, the staff was so attentive.
Would definitely recommend and go again

What a great pub to visit. Unfortunately this time the food was very disappointing. All meals ordered of low standard for the price. Squid and salad was tough and the salad consisted of a pile of lettuce on plate with a dressing. Nothing else. Everyone very disappointed with their meals and the waiter didn't care when I expressed our disappointment. Only ate it because we was hungry and the over price tag that came with it. So it's a no for me and I guess you have to visit the pub to make your own decisions but we wouldn't eat there again. I've given it a one star for food. Staff friendly at the bar, great atmosphere, great pub inside. Just food was disappointing and over priced. Other pubs in Tassie with better food tasted.

Without a doubt the best pub in Hobart. I travel regularly to Hobart and it’s definitely my go to. Great selection of beers that are poured with care and the food is amazing. Guaranteed to meet someone from some other country or part of Australia who is just there to end the day with a good meal and a quick chat.
