After our blow up mattress blew up, we needed a cheap overnighter the following evening.||After a quick search online I came up with ‘The Derwent Valley Resort’ in New Norfolk. Shared bathroom, budget accommodation seemed ok and not expecting too much, we arrived; was I in for a surprise when I entered the building. Everywhere was clean, fresh and in very good condition. Attention to detail like an air freshener in the lift was appreciated up to our 4th floor room. The shared facilities consisted of a completely contemporary shower and hand basin room containing 6 individual shower stalls and a separate toilet room with 2 cubicles and handbasins, again very modern, very clean and all looking almost brand new. In addition to this we had the use of a small, but well equipped kitchenette. Perfect for making an evening meal (if required) and breakfast.||Our room had a very comfortable bed, a small fridge, microwave, tv and small table and chair; perfect for our impromptu stay there. Again, clean, fresh and modern with lovely thick fluffy satowels an added bonus.|| Downstairs is a smartly decorated tv lounge with Foxtel and a games room with pool table. ||For $81 for a double we were suitably impressed as we just needed a bed and washing facilities and didn’t want to pay a fortune. The 2 ladies at reception were lovely and helpful and directed us to a great pub meal in town. ||Well done ladies, you are doing a great job at this motel.|

The only good things about this place were the service and the fact that it was quite clean. ||Upon first glance, our double bedroom was very cold and boring. This place was part of the old insane asylum and it honestly shows. The walls were white with not an ounce of decoration for even just a little comfort. The room had a kettle, but no sink to fill it up. The shared bathroom featured four separate showers, with only shower curtains, meaning it was in no way comfortable to shower as anyone could walk in. Lockable shower doors would not go astray. Come night time, nothing but noise and echoes. We could have a conversation with our neighbours. We couldn't even drown them out with the tv because it didn't work. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but the pillows were flat. Come morning, the completely tiled floor was quite cold underfoot. Overall I'm glad it was reasonably cheap, I'd advise as using this place as a last resort. This place has a lot of potential, and I hope something is done about it. The area probably can't be helped though, abandoned buildings filled with arson, not a very nice place. The carpark was not at all secure either.

This used to some sort of hospital and judging by the solid doors and multiple locking systems might have been for psychiatric patients. The floors were tiled which was excellent for me because I was there on a business trip and my clothes and boots were dirty everyday. The bathroom was shared which again I didn't mind, but perhaps not everyone's cup of tea. The TV in my room didn't work very well and the single bed was only just long enough, but nonetheless comfortable. I bet the family rooms are nothing like mine. My female colleagues had en-suites including shower spas, so there's clearly lots of variation. The breakfast was excellent and the free full size pool table was a blast.

We stayed in the top floor, which seemed to be where they put the family's with kids. ||We had heard this place used to be a hospital of some kind, and it is reflected in the architecture. The floor we stayed in had shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. My mother was shocked to hear that the toilets and showers were not split by gender. ||I found the beds to be too soft. ||The shared space on the first floor was comfortable. There is a large lounge space and it's comfortable to sit and watch TV (if everyone agrees on what's on anyway!). On the ground floor there's also recreational room with a pool table and some puzzles.

We loved this place , the man on the desk was friendly and helpful he told us the history of the building and the plan of the owner to redevelop the site. The restoration he has undertaken is bold and exciting. The work done so far is outstanding the rooms are clean and modern but retain there sixties charm. There is plans to restore the theatre , restaurant swimming pool, etc. Well done. We would love to stay again. It has homey feel to the place

Made very welcome from the start! Staff so friendly and helpful! Lovely clean and modern rooms! Had our five month old baby boy, staff ran off and got him a port a cot and blankets towels, then came back with a bowl of lovely local cherries and to make sure we was comfy!

Very helpful and friendly staff. The manager interrupted her dinner to book us in after reception had closed. She'd put heaters on in the room as it was a cold night. Rooms were very comfortable clean and it was lovely and quiet. Highly recommended

For a start just forget the name of this being a "Resort". Far from it.||||I like the idea of the venue being a former nurses quarters in the what used to be appallingly referred to as a mental asylum. New Norfolk used to be known for extensive mental health facilities.||||Let me first say a few positive things before I say the rest.||||Some many has been spent on updating the bathroom in my room and the attached kitchen area was also modern. I know from my colleagues the other rooms are nothing like the one I got especially those which do not come with a bathroom.||||Now for my experience.||||The staff seem unable to maintain accurate booking records and handed out a room key to my colleague which was not even one from any room in the so called resort. The staff arbitrarily changed the room allocations of my colleagues making them shared rooms contrary to the booking. Just bizarre. It was curious to be told the room is on the fourth floor, however select floor three on the lift.||||The was no aircon, which I understand however it was impossible to open the windows beyond a couple of centimeters. The room was very stuffy. The supplied fan (heater if is cold) could not be used because there wasn't a power point useable anywhere near the bed. The lack of wardrobe in the room made it impossible to store and hang business clothing.||||I could say more such as the terrible bed. I have however I had enough of this place. Find anywhere else in New Norfolk.||||I wonder if Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) ever visited this "Resort".
