We stayed at the Arthur Pavilion for our 28 th wedding anniversary and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The unit was beautifully appointed with original artworks by Arthur Boyd and the bathtub looking over the Derwent sublime. We had breakfast included which was faultless with staff across the MONA complex outstanding. We also visited the Faro restaurant which was a once in a lifetime experience. Do it! The museum is world class and made us feel proud as Australians as it is absolutely world class and unapologetic.

This was my 5th time at Mona and 5th stay at the pavilions. Let me start with saying that this is a 5 out of 5 stay but I have chosen a 4 out of 5 to make sure that they fix the "issue".... There is no doubt one notices little cuts here and there. I have stayed enough times to notice a few things have changed (amenities...). There is also no doubt the staff is the best and friendliest in the universe. They are all one more amazing than the other. Also, there is no doubt the food is the big "issue" right now at MONA. For food I mean DINNER, no issue for lunch, as there are plenty of choices on site and they are all good. You used to get room service, blame covid now, the great excuse for everything that does not work these days or when you decide you need to make some cuts, and room service is gone. The Source is shut in the evening (who knows why? every restaurant in Hobart is busy, but the Source is shut). Faro (I had already eaten at Faro twice before, in the pre-covid days, by the way) has now become one of those places where you are not allowed to choose what you want to eat but someone else is: the chef. I do not eat what someone else wants me to eat, sorry. I find it incredibly rude not to offer - an a la carte menu. Also, with an open kitchen nearby in the evening, you could easily organise some kind of room service. Just put three commons sense things on the menu (steak, fish and chips, club sandwich even, sigh....) that everyone would / could eat (I am Italian 100% and GOOD food is a priority here!) and everyone would not have to get an Uber to go to town to have a dinner. Also, you do not spend this kind of $ to stay somewhere and then get told "you are allowed to cook in your room!" really? and I need to go and get stuff from the supermarket? like, I travel with butter, olive oil, salt pepper...? nope, I don't! and I cook in my room if I stay two nights? Or "you can order a takeaway"... really? Faro's (master)chef won't deliver to your room because "the food will be spoilt" (we were told), but it's ok to order a disgusting UBER thing and wait an hour for the food to get rotten in the carton box? And let's not even get to the lack of any suggestions. You should have a list of places to recommend, you should have some options. Haven;t we heard enough Tasmania is a food place? Really? (mind you, we tried to book a few places a good month in advance and everything on Sundays is either shut or fully booked). Then you say "have a pizza" What pizza? An american fake pizza version that an Italian could easily start a war for? Ha! But... thinking maybe the whole dinner experience was a test from Mr Walsh, we headed down to the Granada Tavern (yes, could be a mega instal with real people playing real people and cooking real food, etc...) and the food was actually ok, pub food, insanely affordable and not greasy,,,, so why do I complain? I have discovered that when you stay at a place for $800 a night you can just visit your local tavern and maybe even play Bingo... seriously Granada was a miracle, but Mona please, you need to do something about food, about dinner, please. Also, breakfast: statistics, Mr Walsh likes statistics. Ok 11 people at breakfast 7 had soft eggs 2 the omelette. only my partner (rather extravagant partner I have) ordered something else on the menu and someone else had huevos rancheros. That means that 80% of the menu is off.... it's not what people want (how boring people are, yes, I agree). But again, statistics. You can offer true amazing food, rather than amazing impossible food for breakfast. Once again, Mona is fantastic, do not get me wrong. You have cut corners here and there (after 5 times you spot all the corners trust me) but it is still the best place in Australia and yes the art is something people all over the world talk about and should talk about and I will come over and over again and I dream about it and I love it immensely and it's the reason why I write this review, so hats off again... please offer options for dinner.... and again, thanks Granada Tavern too.

I love MONA like crazy. Really love the museum and the art but this is meant to be a review of the hotel portion, so will stick to that. Difficult to find where you check in, but once we did, the experience was sublime. We were greeted at the reception desk by friendly, welcoming people. Our room (Esmond) was gorgeous with interesting art and furniture. Very much appreciated the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. Delicious! Everything is the highest quality: appliances, electric shades (that work!), heating under the floor, linens. Bathroom has a very cool sink but here is my one quibble. I wish they had frosted the glass to the toilet area. We had a beautiful view from our deck and we felt like we were in nature with all of the trees and bushes surrounding us. After the museum closed we wandered around the quiet grounds and loved sitting and peacefully watching Amarna by James Turrell with just one other couple there. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful. I had cappuccino and poached eggs on spinach over gluten free bread per my request. Husband had a latte, an omelette with truffles and mushrooms plus an order of stewed fruit. All good. It was served in a room with floor to ceiling glass looking out over the bay. The whole time we felt like we were treated like royalty because we were guests of the hotel. I wish I could remember specific names, but truly, all the staff was terrific.

Checkin was friendly and informative. Included in your accommodation rate are tickets to the museum, and a complementary wine tasting at their on site winery (both of which we highly recommend). The Charles 2-bedroom Pavilion was lovely - spacious, well maintained, tastefully decorated including original artwork, and with a stunning outlook onto the Derwent River. As well as the best 'mini' bar I've ever seen.||||Tips:||- If travelling by ferry to Mona, advise the crew as they have a second pier at Mona for the accommodation, and will meet you with a golf buggy. ||- Be sure to book Art+Diner at Faro - a unique dining experience.

If you like MONA then take the opportunity to stay in one of the pavilions. They are beautifully appointed and very well equipped. You have a full kitchen and laundry. Breakfast is included and is great. All of this does come at a price but worth it for the experience

On check in, we were escorted to our pavilion by a member of the friendly, helpful front of house staff. We were very impressed: The living space was stylishly and comfortably furnished and offered lovely views of the surrounding bush land and Derwent River. The full kitchen and modern bathroom, complete with spa bath, were most impressive... but then came bed time. On the first night we were constantly awoken by the flashing of the remote lighting unit on the wall next to the bed. By stacking up pillows on the bed side table we were finally able to get a few hours sleep. The next morning we reported the issue to reception and were assured that the problem would be fixed. Unfortunately that didn't happen, so it was back to the pillow stacking again before we went to bed. ||Then came problem number two: The large master control panel, mounted higher up the wall close to the bed, would not turn off. It was like a having a search light in the room. I did not expect to be awake at three o'clock in the morning constructing a shield out of paper to hang in front of the unit. This cut down the light a little, but not completely. Paying over $600 a night for a room where I couldn't even get a decent night's sleep left a very bad taste in my mouth that not even the satisfying and beautifully presented breakfast the next morning could alleviate. ||We also found a half used packet of pizza bases, dated April 2020, on the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard...not a good look! ||A bottle of wine was offered as some sort of recompense, but if you decide to stay here, don't forget to check all the electronic devices and cupboards before settling in for the night. ||I've been searching their website, looking for a feedback form, but there's no such thing. I've also noticed no replies by the GM to any of the Tripadvisor reviews. This should be setting off alarm bells for potential visitors. ||I realise that things can go wrong, even at the best of establishments, but it's how those issues are dealt with by management that is of utmost importance.||A lot of Australian travellers, who can no longer spend thousands of dollars on overseas travel, seem to be looking to spend more money on accommodation at home, which is a great idea, but don't waste your money here.

We stayed in the Robin pavilion.||Pros: The beautiful views and the spacious pavilion.||Cons: Flies hovering everywhere in the pavilion and limited choices for breakfast. Video art feature was also not working in the pavilion.
