Judith and Paul made us feel extremely welcome from the moment we entered their lovely home. The warmth of their hospitality made us feel at home immediately. Everything was perfect. They are the loveliest couple who do a fantastic job making their visitors feel welcome and comfortable in a very private section of their home. To be able to have a fantastic evening meal cooked by Paul and not have to drive back from town after dinner was absolute bliss. The garden is beautiful and functional with wildlife as well as sheep and chickens. There are walks to be enjoyed on the property as well as off. Words are not enough to describe this lovely accomodation. We really did not want to leave.

House is up a long quiet road and overlooks stunnjng river and mountains beyond. Lots of marsupials roam the gardens amongst the veg gardens and free range chooks. Our family with two grown up lids had two beds with bathroom between and exclusive use of lounge and deck area. Breakfast was flexible and host Paul would have done anything to make sure we got exactly what we needed to get maximum enjoyment. Paul was full of stories and good humour and our stay was a pleasure.

Paul is a very good host.
Having dinner was great.
He has lots of ideas for his bed and breakfast.
Was so enjoyable to actually see a host, and have conversation.
The first in 7 stays to see a host! The rest in Tasmania was very inhospitable.
We will return

My friends and I had a lovely stay at House on the Hill from 28 to 30 December, 2019. It is, as its name suggests, literally a house perched on a hill. Only better. It commands a spectacular view. Lavender plants line the driveway and bid a charming welcome. For three city dwellers from Singapore, it is a sweet haven of tranquility. ||||We loved the beautifully landscaped garden just beyond the living and dining room. A resident kookaburra stakes his place as king resident here amidst a dazzling display of flowers. In the evenings it was a treat to sit outside and read in full view of the garden. ||||What impressed us the most was the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, Judith and Paul. They made it a point to interact with us, took an interest in our travel plan, and offered helpful tips on weather forecasts and places to visit. They taught us the names of the flowers in the garden. Now whenever I see the agapanthus, I will remember Paul and Judith. They even retrieved the laundry we left to dry on the clotheslines in the yard when it rained and we were out galavanting. ||||We had all our breakfast and dinners at House on the Hill, and enjoyed the delicious home-cooked meals. There was a delectable mince pie we particularly liked and Judith kept another serving for us for dinner the next day. How very sweet and thoughtful! ||||Staying at House on the Hill was memorable and marked the start of a truly wonderful visit to Tasmania. God willing, we shall return.

Tried to make a booking through Booking.com but it said that check in had to be before 9pm. Our flight into Hobart didn't land till 9:30pm. So instead I called House on the Hill and spoke to Paul to see if it would still be possible to book a night. He was agreeable and said we would be able to check in around 11pm. He took the booking over the phone. When we arrived into Hobart and had our rental car, I called Paul around 10pm and got the voicemailbox. Left a message saying we were on our way and to call me back to confirm, which he didn't. When we arrived at 11pm, the place was dark. We knocked on doors, rang a doorbell, but nobody answered. I called the number for Paul several times but got voicemail every time. Tired and frustrated, and with nowhere else to book in Huonville at that time of night, we had to drive back to Hobart and get a room there, which was way more expensive. It was not a good introduction to Tasmania on our first visit there.|I tried calling Paul over several days to find out what had happened but he would never pick up the phone. Finally almost a week later he did pick up and said that he had fallen asleep and apologized. That is fine... It happens to the best of us, but the fact that he never followed up the next day to apologize or offer us another night as compensation speaks volumes. I just want people on this forum to know that this could happen to you. I'm sure the place is lovely, but we'll never know!

A big thank you to Paul and Judith for making our stay in their beautiful home so special. They truly are a lovely couple who care about the comfort and wellbeing of there guests without being intrusive. The house is situated on the side of a hill with stunning views of the valley and river and is surrounded by a beautiful garden which is not only pretty but also functional, they grow a lot of there own produce that is used in the beautiful meals cooked by Paul and Judith. I loved all of small touches that were added like the cake and biscuits left for afternoon tea and the selection of Tasmanian wine in the basket that you could choose from, its the small things that make this place so special.|The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and was such a treat to return to after a busy day of sight seeing. After two days of being spoilt we did not want to leave and will definitely recommend them to anyone who is travelling to Tasmania.
