Absolutely Appalling Experience – Do NOT Stay Here

I am beyond disappointed with my stay at Mackay Oceanside Central Hotel . From the moment we stepped into our room, it was clear this place has zero regard for cleanliness or guest comfort. The room was damp with a disgusting smell, mould visibly growing on the curtains, bathroom ceiling and walls, dirty floors. The bathroom was no better, with grime and dirt caked on the walls. To top it off, we found cockroaches and flies in the room.

When we called the hotel manager to address the smell, we were told it was due to “days of rain.” How rain is supposed to make a room reek of mould and filth is beyond me. His suggestion? To air out the room—which, unsurprisingly, didn’t work. When we called again, the manager arrived with his partner, making the whole encounter awkward, and heavily sprayed the air conditioning vents with what he claimed was “antibacterial spray.” Upon inspecting the bottle, it turned out to be nothing more than air freshener!

The manager himself reeked of cigarettes, and the smell lingered long after he left the room. The reception area was just as bad, saturated with the smell of smoke, adding to the overall unprofessional and unhygienic environment.

Concerned for our health due to the mould and lack of hygiene, we left and booked accommodations elsewhere. We paid $133 for this nightmare, and despite raising these serious issues, the hotel manager refused to offer any care, concern, or even a refund. Instead, he came up with excuse after excuse to justify the appalling state of the room.

This was an absolute waste of money, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay here. Mackay Oceanside Central Hotel is a health hazard and a disgrace to hospitality. Stay far, far away!

Absolutely fantastic location and service! Rooms are what you would expect but very well maintained and clean. Value is amazing and use of the EV charger makes this an absolute no brainer every time we stop in Mackay. Not too far from city centre with lots of choices for food and activities.

A very nice clean and comfortable room. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon so had minimal contact with reception staff. We did have to ring them when our door alarm kept going off. It was OE and it just needed another push to lock fully! Overall Avery good position and a comfortable stay.

Needed a room after driving through the night. Called these guys and was checked in and in bed 20 mins later! So helpful and polite. Would definitely recommend.

Please read this and do not give these people your money. I booked a King Room with twin beds at this hotel when travelling with a work colleague. Despite, the booking confirmation, the booking.com advert and their website saying the room was available with twin beds, they took payment and tried to give us a room with a double bed. When I complained that we needed twin beds, they claimed the room I booked was for a double bed only and they refused to refund our money. After booking somewhere else for the night, I complained to Booking.com and my bank. They then proceeded to lie to both booking.com and ANZ, claiming I had fraudulently changed the booking document. It took almost three months for my bank to claw back the funds after investigating and finding out the booking was genuine and they were still advertising the same room both on booking.com and on their own website with twin rooms. Their management are some of the most dishonest, horrible people I have ever had to deal with.

This place was disappointing. The pool was closed (no reason or date of reopening stated), there were no bicycles like the website showed (the owners said they got rid of them during COVID, but I don't understand why they don't have them back as we have all well and truly learned how to manage COVID risks), the reception and cafe were unexpectedly closed on my first morning and there was no sign to explain it (later found out one of the owners was unwell which is fine but the other staff/owner could have put up a quick sign to explain why).
The room cleaning was done differently every day, and made no sense--day 1 my bedsheets were pulled up but bed not properly made, and used towels (although hanging up) were taken away and not all replaced, day 2 bed not touched but used towel taken away and not replaced, and day 3 bed again roughly made and used towels left and replacement towels left in front of the microwave. It was a daily mystery to see what would be done that day!
The cleaning was okay in my room, although not very thorough, with dirt left under the hanging bathroom bench.
The breakfast buffet was okay, and the owners were friendly when they were around. It just seemed rather disorganised and unpredictable.
