Very clean well apointed room lovely staff. The stairs a bit difficult for older people. Only on street parking isnt good. A large drunken gathering on the street right under window at 3 am wasn't the fault of the business but was very off putting. Part of Cairns i think. Over all it was very comfortable and spotless and thats important. I would stay again

I didn’t stay at Escape on the Lake because they just canceled my booking without my permission. I queried this with the manager Jennifer Logan who was rude, aggressive and abusive and ultimately hung up while I was still talking to her. They also cancelled a friend’s booking as well. Don’t book here because your holiday may be ruined by unexpected cancellations. I intend reporting this to the Cairns Tourism Authority and local tourism agents. Cairns relies heavily on tourism and this is a bad experience for any other visitors. Check other reviews, they’re not good

Value for money. Good place if you just want somewhere to lay your head. Has toaster, kettle, microwave, iron, couch, desk, bar fridge, small kitchenette. Great bathroom: good water pressure, airy & spacious. Has been tastefully done, simple, clean. Does have 1 flight of stairs to climb, no off street parking, no balcony. Basic but clean & great location.

Okay, so yes the check-in is at a car hire/tour reservation place down the street, and the rooms aren't obvious from the road (at all), but this place was fantastic. The rooms are behind a gated entry for security. The room was huge, clean, and had a very efficient AC. All that was nice, but what really gave this place that extra bump to 5 stars was the service. We arrived in Cairns around 11am and had a tour booked to pick us up at 1:30pm (13:30). This was worrisome because the tour didn't have space for our luggage and the hotel check-in wasn't supposed to be until 3pm (15:00). I emailed them expressing my concern and they promptly replied to tell me that they would try their best to have the room available by 1 (1300). Actually all their emails were prompt and informative. We get there at noon to ask if they can hold our bags while we get lunch and the room is already ready for us, which was a great peace of mind. With the other reviews I was a little worried about this booking, but I wanted to be close to the marina for a dive trip early the next morning, and it was a gamble that well paid off. The desk staff (we spoke to 3 or 4 different people over the course of our stay), were all very pleasant and professional. There is no parking but where we didn't have a rental car in Cairns, so this wasn't an issue for us.

Room 1 of Escape on Lake is infested with ants and management is impossible to reach. Room 1 has a huge infestation of little ants that come through the AC unit. We didn’t notice ants at first until the maid shut off our AC as she always does after cleaning a room. When we returned, we saw a whole line of little ants crawling down the wall from the AC to along the bottom edge of the entire room. The maid used ant spray two days ago and it worked for a day, but this is the second reoccurrence of the ants and it was a hugely disappointing way to return to the hotel to relax after an amazing day at the barrier reef. This hotel would have been fine if the management was more responding and caring, and of course if there were no ants.||Also, the worse thing is the management never apologized for this happening to us, and hasn’t offered any form of compensation for ruining our trip with such horrible conditions of the room.

Not a hotel just some rooms above a car hire place.||This place is very misleading. You think you are booking a room in a hotel but you are not. This is some old residence above a very noisy car hire shop which has been turned into a few rooms which have no soundproofing at all! You can hear everything going on in the rooms next to you and everything that is going on downstairs like cleaning and vacuuming of cars, working on cars, people shouting at eachother and lovely cigarette smoke wafting up to the window, if you are lucky enough to have a window. ||The strange gate that you have to go through to get to the rooms is down a very dodgy ally way and the gate is continually slammed from very early in the morning. Very annoying!||Quite scary and very difficult to find if arriving after 5pm, not even the cab driver knew where it was. And there is no reception area. ||The rooms have been refurbed but are not very functional. You have to sit in the very hard bed to watch tv. There are 2 plates, 2 glasses, 2 forks etc. Can only make tea or coffee. ||Over all the experience was so terrible we had to leave early and find another place to stay. The owner was nice enogh to give us a refund but it was only fair really as the noise levels in the place are ridiculous. ||There are way better places to stay for the same nightly rate that are better located, are a full apartment with seperate bedroom, kitchen and laundy such as the Inn Cairns, Il Centro, Il Palazzo etc. Same rate, good place.

It was a hassle free check in . We were advised on how to get inside the hotel since our check in was quite late already. The room is so spacious and clean . The location is in the heart of CBD which was so convenient for us

So first I’d like to say I regret not reading the reviews before booking, I could of saved myself from a horrible experience.
Arriving at a dingy car rental to collect keys for our room was just the start, we then entered the 34 degree hot box (Maybe consider turning on the aircon for the arrival of guests).
My sister then went to use the bathroom, returning with a bruised leg from the toilet which clearly had the wrong size seat unattached sitting on the rim.
After a long flight I was looking forward to having a shower, only to discover all the towels had yellow stains GROSS.
So by this point it’s obvious the whole place is a complete joke for $135, lucky we were only staying one night!
As we were checking out I told the lady behind the counter (assuming she is the owner as no employee would behave in such a way) about the issues with the room. (From the dead cockroach in the doorway, partially working aircon, excessively loud ticking in fan to the stained linen) she was obviously not taken to hearing any sort of complaint about her establishment. I mentioned I would be leaving a review and she quickly offered me a $20 refund. When I told her it was still a disappointing experience she revoked her offer of a refund and yelled at me to not get angry with her.
We left feeling quite upset for it to only get unimaginable worse! As my sister closed the rickety old door behind us, the woman followed us out screaming at my sister that she had just broken the door(she hadn’t), And then continued to yell at us down the street as we walked away that the toilet was likely broken by us having ā€œBoom boom boomā€ *whilst thrusting her body madly.
At this point I’d like to mention we were only in cairns for that day to attend our dearly departed fathers funeral, so already an emotional and stressful experience to then have to deal with the most unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour from our accommodation host was just added baggage we didn’t need.
Needless to say if I could leave a zero star review I would!
