If I could give no rating for this review it would still be too high.
The place has a rustic look, that turns out to be just poorly maintained.
Given the choices for a feed in Heberden, the Royal was the worst possible choice to make, where we parted with our hard earned dollars for a steak sanger and chips to the tune of $20.00 each.
Lets start with the "steak sanger" a grisly piece of steak that tasted like it was boiled, served on an unbuttered piece of Turkish bread, with one slice of tomato, three pieces of lettuce mix and some grilled onion, this is not even close to a traditional steak sandwich.
For the chips we got a mix of wedges and very overcooked chips (wedges are not chips!) with $20 worth divided into to two dishes.
The chips were dark brown in colour, full of overcooked oil and very , very crunchy, to get a chip this crunchy you would have to cook for 40 minutes, this did not occur as the chips were cold when we got them.
My conclusion is that the chips had been recycled a number of times, and I can only hope it was not from other meals as I suspect may be the case.

How this hotel is approved to offer accommodation in Australia is beyond me!!||Having just returned from Africa I have never been offered accommodation of such a substandard rate as this!!||It was so bad we told them I was having a heart attack and had to leave! Appalling, truly appalling! Who in Queensland is responsible for ensuring the quality is above 3rd world standard||What a joke, disgusting, filthy just bloody awful!

This is apparently of the oldest pubs in Queensland and was bought a few years ago. The new owner is renovating the place, so mind your step.
Very friendly staff and frequented by locals who are thrilled to share their experiences of the friendly ghosts who apparently frequent the hotel. Good prices for beer, which is hard to find now.
There are no meals served here.
Is pet friendly as well.

We didn't stay but had great big meals beautifully presented and stacked up high. Great sides with the two of the
best tasting pork chops cooked perfectly.
My wife had the calamari rings of which were too many, nice and tender.

VERY poorly run, untidy the older manager Raymond Saunders seemed to be preoccupied with anything but not the Hotel, seems to be a huge difference between the two owners I mean you know when the other owners on Rick Sheriff very polite and shows professionalism, were if Rays on things really go downhill,

We walked in looking forward to a good old fashioned pub lunch and it was all downhill from there. Ordered hot roast meat rolls which was the pick of the bunch from tiny menu, other punters given table numbers we were told we didn’t need one so an hour later when our meal came out the poor waiter didn’t know where any order was going. The gravy in the rolls was old and had set hard and was the worst I’ve ever had. The table was filthy and the whole place needs a good clean and tidy up, we won’t be back. PS. Spoke to some locals who said they never eat there as the food is terrible, much better options nearby in Millaa Millaa.

Great staff and a friendly vibe. Tasty gourmet pizzas and icy cold beer on tap. We will be back. It's all you need after a long day of hiking the hills around town.
