My stay at Vitrinite Village was a unique experience. After a long day in the field it's nice to come back to a bed. I laid down to find the pillows could be effectively doubled in thickness by laying a piece of paper or napkin on them. The problem was partially solved by rolling one of the pillows up, pressing into the side of my head like a slightly softer brick. It was also handy that the bed was on wheels, because the primary purpose of a bed is obviously to clean under it slightly more easily. A simple roll or shuffle to get comfortable and return feeling to my numb side from the firmness of the bed would cause it to take off on a sort of migration across the floor, with the pillows immediately falling down between it and the wall into what must have been a portal into the shadow realm. Finding the pillows wasn't too hard in the dark because it wasn't dark. Expertly placed lights outside with ineffective curtains ensured it was always bright enough to see. Turning over constantly to try and get comfortable was akin to being on a rotisserie. The beds did however increase productivity in my crew with two team members opting to take a second shift rather than try to get any rest.

Culturally the place was diverse and vibrant. A porch cackle party somewhere else in the village livened up the night, with the thin walls providing an excellent insight into the conversations and random outbursts.

The spirit of the Olympics was there too, with an attempt at track and field bringing the games close to home. Close enough when someone threw a length of particle board at my cabin, hitting the wall right next to my head as I finally dozed off. I nearly broke the high jump record myself from a side sleeping position and, following a second throw from likely the same athlete nearly an hour later I was guaranteed to be wide awake for most of the evening.

Finally, the thin walls allowed for a fascinating insight into the local culture where a motorsports enthusiast partook in recreating Summernats on the road outside near midnight.

Meals were good and staff were friendly.

All in all, a unique and diverse stay.

This place has so much potential and it has in the past. First room, external door wouldn't shut, no shower curtain and TV didn't work. So much for state of origin.
Ok, no worries. Another room, guess what? Reverse cycle has "out of service tag" on it. I would post a photo but option not available.
Very sad 😔 😟

Worker camp type accommodation, great for work trips with modern rooms. Good hearty buffet style meals with a great selection (however never saw any seafood during my visits). Friendly and helpful staff. Centre of town with heaps of parking & space. Would stay again.

Accomodation was readily available especially since we made a last minute decision to stop for the night. Service was friendly and efficient. Cost was low. Accomodation was clean. Using doonas instead of blankets made it more comfortable to sleep. The hotel across the road was also handy with good, inexpensive meals.

The room very was clean, and the staff friendly If you are after a counter meal it was a short 100 meter walk to the local pub. And if you need to stock up on supplies the shops and chemist are right there too. Will definitely stay again.

My company may need to advise that I am an amputee but, Shower facilities are not set up for disabled clients ( shower floor slippery and very sloped. No shower rails to assist). Otherwise facilities were good.
