Planned a week driving holiday around getting to Cobar to visit the Sound Chapel. Was even better than expected. Loved the contrasting textures of both the architecture and the 'sound'. Experienced the building as the sun went down and the stars came out. Definitely worth the drive.

The Cobar Sound Chapel is a ‘must-do’ experience of Outback NSW. It’s a hauntingly beautiful and grounding experience. Whatever you are going through in life - spending time here gives you time to reflect and reset. Well done to George Lentz and everyone involved for creating this remarkable art and music installation.

It’s an unusual concept that’s very modern, inside a very old structure.
I enjoyed my few minutes of sit down quiet time after a long drive. Very peaceful!
$100 deposit from the Museum and info building, which is returned to you, but you need cash.
You have to book a time slot so allow an hour from collecting to returning.

Unique & amazing construction & soundscape experience. This is our second visit & we'll come again when travelling to the outback. A visit at dusk is recommended for full appreciation of the ambiance. A recommendation I would make is to have a sign at the parking area on the track to the chapel, to advise people they must book a time at the Sound Chapel so as the guests inside are not disturbed with having to explain this as people come to the gates expecting to get in without a booking time.

We loved the sound chapel. Such an innovative concept and well worth a visit. We collected the key from the visitors centre first.

Loved the whole set up. Each sound seems to surround you and feels right and tranquil. Looking up at the sky is also very relaxing. Due to the recent rain the cushions were wet but that was ok. Would be a lovely place to go if a person was feeling troubled.

The Cobar Sound Chapel offers a unique and beautiful experience like no other. It's a little disappointing to read some other reviews that show that people aren't researching their visit - it's not the kind of transient experience that a lookout or landmark offers, so it needs to be treated with the same respect and attention that its creators have dedicated to it. Read up about it, it's an easy booking system and you simply leave a $100 deposit then take the key and you become the ONLY people able to enjoy this wonderful experience at the time you're there. We were lucky enough to be able to spend 4+ hours there and enjoyed the change of music and atmosphere from afternoon, through sunset, to dark. Absolutely mind-blowing from a musical and cultural perspective and visually it's incredibly engaging and beautiful, as are the surroundings. To have the music of Georges Lentz, one of Australia's foremost composers, playing 24/7 in the middle of nowhere in this stunning building is beyond comparison and should be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

An unusual experience, but well worth the visit. The music was quiet whilst we were there, as if we were nearing the end of the loop, but it was still very enjoyable. Why out there, and why in an old water tank? You need to visit and answer these questions for yourself ?
