This neighbourhood centre does not encourage unity. Community members who have accessed services such such as counselling or emergency relief are not allowed to progress to become volunteers. This policy was clearly explained to me by the manager Karen. I was also discouraged from joining SEALS, a social group, by the then community worker Matt (who has since left) who I had seen for counselling. He told me that I couldn't access the group unless I'd attended a meeting of theirs at the centre. Then he did not give me accurate details of when the group met!
There are only a small number of groups running at the centre and these are gate-kept to keep community members out they think won't fit in. I recently attended a function run by another neighbourhood centre and met a woman who also felt she'd been discriminated against by staff at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre. It was helpful to realize I wasn't the only one.
I've moved on and am so happy with my life now, but honestly experienced nothing but misery when I tried to engage with them.
The activities centre around elderly people or those who like pottery! Nothing for young families eg playgroup.
I particularly don't like how there is no-one to greet you at reception. You must ring a bell and the staff (who work in a building next door to the reception) peer at you through a window to decide if they want to come down to talk to you!
There is a way more welcoming community centre in Graceville called Benarrawa.

I have to visit there on occasions and I find it quite pleasant to be there and deal with the people staff there. Always willing and helpful to all that go there for many of the varying reasons.
A great and helpful community center for urgent need of help and for many different courses and classes happening there.
The facilities are always neat and clean there. Its a credit to them

I have now been to the neighbourhood centre for a number of different events. Yesterday was a community expo featuring the type of community groups in the Sherwood/ Corinda area. A fortnight ago was a celebration event for Queensland day.

Each time I have visited I found the staff very warm and helpful.
It's a terrific community Centre. A number of light bright rooms and toilet facilities and kitchenette.

A little difficult to get parking at times but there's also some disability parking in the street.
Each event I attended we were also being generously provided with lunch tea and coffee, wraps, scones and cream etc. This made an opportunity to socialise well with others

Matt, the manager is a very warm and generous spirited and helpful person. It is clear that the centre gives a lot to support to many people in many ways.

There is also an op shop at the side of the centre open half days Monday to Thursday.

The centre is the venue for some great activities -many and varied! Movement, art, craft and lots more.
Best to go online or Facebook to look up at all their events and regular classes they hold as there is numerous everyday.

Came here for JP service which starts at 10. The JP didn’t come on time and staff told me that they were trying to contact him. With no further update I was kept waiting not knowing when exactly he will come, eventually I left at 10:21am. Late is okay but at least let people know when exactly the JP will come or not. Have to mention I have never been to a place where JP was late!
