Our stay at this amazing guest house was enhanced by the friendliness and generosity of Di & Andrew.
The place is a testimony to their vision and skill. They not only built the whole thing, including the furniture in the incredible common kitchen area, but their hospitality and local knowledge made it an experience to remember.
We've been to Cooktown twice before, but this was, by far, the most comfortable and enjoyable stay we've had in this great town. Thanks Di, Andrew and your beautiful Gecko Guest House.
We can't recommend it highly enough.

Diana and Andrew made us feel like family and were extremely accommodating. We were without a car, having arrived in Cooktown by bus, and every day there were offers to take us wherever we needed to go. The property is light and airy, with an amazing shared kitchen and lounge area and a small but clean and refreshing pool. Our room (one of only three) was spotlessly clean and quite comfortable. The only tiny negative was a lack of storage space. Loved the monsoon shower! The property is close to town, so we were able to walk to most places (didn’t even attempt Grassy Hill, though, with Andrew kindly dropping us off and explaining what we were looking at). We also took advantage of the courtesy buses offered by the RSL, Bowls Club and Sovereign Hotel. It’s the small touches that make this place special - and their extremely friendly and adorable dog! Highly recommended!

The listing sums it up very well, except for two things - beautiful tropical gardens is stretching it a bit, there's garden beds around the property, but that's it. And secondly, calling the centre of Cooktown the CBD is also stretching it a bit! It's just a lovely old, wide street with a few buildings each side, a wonderful old FNQ town. Why mention the gardens? Because it's the only thing I could think of that wasn't great and I didn't want to sound too effusive! Di and Andrew (and the real boss - their gorgeous dog!) are ideal hosts, friendly and helpful. Yet despite the units being literally on their front door, it felt private. There's a fabulous breezeway with cooking amenities that we didn't have time to use, and across the road is a woodland full of bird life. It's not like a hotel, with various services. It's a great place to find some peace and quiet and privacy, and do your own thing. If you need help with advice or a booking, Di and Andrew seem to know evreyone in Cooktown (probably isn't difficult) and can help organise it. I wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely stay there again if I get the chance to return. Highly recommended.

This was our first experience at a guest house. Jude and I really enjoyed the comfortable ease that both Di and Andrew have and that this guest house offers. The queen bed was extremely comfortable, the room quiet and peaceful, a must for travellers. The airy shared space with generous kitchen and lounge area is so spacious that guests can easily find an quiet place for themselves if they wish. The pool area too is separate and on a lower level. Perfect spot.

A really great apartment, perhaps a little on the small size but the open kitchen area was a real bonus. The hosts are great, and make you feel really welcome. If you are looking for a place to stay in Cooktown I would highly recommend.there are lots of local attractions like the Historic Society, the reconciliation rocks close by plus the RSL for great meals.
