Rooms are tidy and clean, however they do need updating. Blind is grubby and needs replacing. Beds are firm, maybe an overlay would help. Aircon wasn't working until reception was contacted. Not sure if the product equals the cost. Location is good with easy access to everything.

I recently stayed at The Gateway Inn, Newcastle, for three nights while on a work trip and had a great experience. The location is excellent, providing easy access to both the airport and the Hunter Valley, making it convenient for both business and leisure.

The food at the club restaurants was consistently good, offering a variety of options to suit different tastes. I particularly enjoyed the convenience of the coffee machine in the lobby, which was a nice touch for those early mornings or late-night work sessions.

The gym is modern and well-equipped, and the swimming pool was an added bonus for some relaxation after a long day. The rooms are also modern and comfortable, with fast internet that made it easy to stay connected and get work done in the evenings.

Overall, The Gateway Inn provided a great mix of comfort, convenience, and amenities. I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Newcastle, whether for work or leisure.

My partner and myself booked a room for the night to have a night away for my birthday and to spend time with my partner without our child.
Upon arrival the overall front desk service was amazing and we were well looked after.
As we settled in to go to sleep we thought we would watch a movie. We ended up buying the movie package which was $34.95 as we purchased the package we were not expecting the whole tv screen to freeze and not be usable. We then grabbed a drink from the mini bar fridge and my partner took a couple of sips and thought it tasted funky. To our surprise it was out of date by 7 months. We called front desk to tell them both of the issues we had and were told they would call us back. 45 min later I phoned and they said they would come up. The young trainee who came up was very apologetic and made sure that we had a complementary drink. Room was tidy, spar bath was spacious even though there were things falling off of the bath tub. Safe to say we will not be returning.

I booked this hotel from overseas, and I thought it would be much better from the images I saw and the fact it was 4 stars. Honestly rooms were smaller than I hoped and the location is quite isolated. Also to get water I had to go the lobby and see if I’m lucky and there is any available.

Other amenities like gym or pool required going out of hotel and into another building which was a bit inconvenient.

But most importantly, for that amount of money i paid I didn’t feel like 4 stars quality and honestly felt like I got scammed by the time I checked out.

Very disappointed with our room, when we first walked in to our twin room there was a bottle cap and other little bits of rubbish on the floor, the carpet between the beds had not vacuumed and really stood out on the dark carpet, mould on the cushions, drip marks on the cupboard above the mini bar....the list goes on, but the biggest issue was the frosted bathroom wall in a twin share. Extremely awkward sharing the room with a male friend and we had to leave the room so each other could shower.

The last time I stayed here there was no $100 pre-auth scam going on ! Now there is this total scam and being told that I will not see my $100 for up to 28 days is nothing but a total and utter scam ! Some motels ask for a credit card pre-auth of $1 ! But this whole $100 lean on our money is nothing but a scam ! I can stay in up to 100 motels per year depending on the workload ... if every motel charged $100 that is $10,000 in tied up money and hundreds of hours chasing whether this money has been returned or not which has happened quite a few times now, but hey that is the long term goal isnt it ... hope that we dont check ! You are now banned ... never again

Staff very helpful and super polite. We did a last minute booking and they accommodated us really well with two infants. I’d rate this hotel at least a 4 star as many 4 stars we’ve recently stayed at don’t even come close to the cleanliness and service. Next to the hotel is a leagues club and the stuff there were also very welcoming. Overall we stayed 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend it. Oh and the convenience of having two restaurants at the club next door was super handy. If we ever revisited Newcastle in the future we will definitely stay here purely due to the staff.
