The kitchen is currently being renovated which is fine except we didn't get told this until we went to the bar for dinner. Didn't get told when we checked in, no signs up anywhere no mention on the website either. Not a huge problem but would have been go to know before heading down for dinner.

Nice rustic old building, with rooms that match, quite dated and a floor that creaks like a door in a horror movie.

Not a bad place to stay but would probably try another place if I came through town again.

Came here for dinner one night and decided to eat in the front bar. Service was fast and the meal was nice. I then spent a bit of time wandering around looking at all the old photos and picturing the great dances and nights out at this pub. Pretty cool.

Room was average but understandably due to budget rooms. Arrival the owner was great, room was good and partially clean. Was welcomed with dirty towels behind the door in the room. Bathroom and toilet but please note that the building is ancient and so is the amenities. Couldn't sleep due to residents constantly slamming doors and heating up food around 11.30 at night. Location is in the main strip of town, on street parking and food was over priced so sourced out other locations in town to have dinner.

So I made the reservation on booking.com that said there was a special off season deal for $95 for a room with a double bed and private bathroom. I arrive there and when checking in they asked me if i wanted to pay to upgrade to a room with my own bathroom. I was surprised and told them when I booked it said it already came with my own bathroom. Im travelling to melbourne from cairns and drove 9hrs that day and the last thing i wanted was have to share a bathroom or venture out of my room for a toilet.

The chap in charge, big round fella, told me that booking.com make up lies in their offers online and it's not included. I was shocked and asked him why do they use a site that deceives people and basically does false advertising! So he is aware of the obvious scam and deception to get people in to then push them to pay extra for what they thought was already included.
**NOTE TO ANYONE BOOKING ONLINE: Get a screen shot of the offer included in the price BEFORE YOU MAKE THE BOOKING AND PAY. After you pay, those details of what they offered disappear and they know this. He asked me to prove the booking said it came with a private bathroom and I obviously couldn't.

I refused to pay anymore out of principal. I cant tell you what the food was like as i refused to give another cent to them from that point. The shared bathroom was absolutely filthy as the pictures show. The bathroom smelt like mould and had visible mould, even the floor matt was dirty. It's so quiet in there, you think they could scrub a bathtub and at least have it clean for customers. Massive stains on the curtains in the bedroom, microwave was gross. If I hadn't been exhausted from a 9hr drive I would have left and found somewhere else. I didn't even shower in the end, I slept early and left early. Bed was comfy, the only positive.

They gave me no information when checking in, no WiFi password, nothing. They simply didn't care. Is it any wonder why small businesses go under when they treat people like this. They were super quiet and instead of just offer me a room with my own bathroom, they are obviously happy to have a booking set up that lies to people and doesn't deliver what it says prior to booking.

So because they don't care and are happy to take the piss, I'll write an honest review to reflect this as there are other places in town which would have to be nicer than this one. I saw on my way out of town the Rocks motel even allow room inspections prior which shows honesty and decency does exist in the town.

I hope it was worth it guys being shady and deceptive. Next time maybe treat those who pay money to your business better!

The only complaint was there were cobwebs in the room. Apart from that it would have been 5 star.
A great little spot the food was good & beers were cold. The barman was very pleasant to chat with, too.

Dinner in Bistro wasnt very nice. Salad was green mix and a couple of slivers of carrot. My main meal ๐Ÿ˜”Hubby's $55 Black Angus Steak was super chewy. Staff pleasant.

We enjoyed staying in a grand Australian pub, that has been lovingly restored to its former glory. The family history and origins of Hotel Corones is exhibited throughout the building. And while it does show its age in places ,it is still a beautiful building that illustrates the fortitude and resilience our forebears.

We really wanted to experience an Aussie Pub and we did! My goodness, the history! The dinner was yummy, the parking was full, the whole place was a bit cold but it is winter! The mattress was the best we have had all week & the tour was fun and interesting. The manager is a legend and did make a real effort to chat, connect and he made us feel so welcome!

It's a shame that such a beautiful part of history is fading, here's hoping the new owners finish some heritage renovations.
