We visited and thoroughly enjoyed our three days break on our way to Darwin so had to stay again on our way south. An entertaining free guided tour, check with the Information Centre for details, and the historic Woolscour tour were really good, a lovely township with gold coin donation camping along the bore fed creek. Yep, had a good feed of yabbies there.

The day I popped in I couldn't get much assistance with locating good birding spots.
There are lots of twitchers out there and in most places one can access a bird list as well as locations to spot birds.
I did find the local bird hide, which has been exceptionally well constructed, but it is a very poor location.

Mary Anne at the info centre, was very helpful, and very knowledgeable. Loved the warm thermal pool. It is a full 50 metres. I do laps. The walking/ bike track around the town to the gold coin campsite, and then up to the hospital and the airport on the bike was about 5 km each way. Just great. Diesel was cheap ($1.85) outside the Blackall motel, but the hamburgers and skinny cap at the Caltex were brilliant. Now have a Big Red Kangaroo with pizza, and kebabs near the golf course. New, since our visit last year. It was great, but very busy around 6pm. Second time I pre- ordered an hour ahead and it worked real well. We are now staying three weeks. No night life we could find, but a lovely friendly little town.
