My family and I came to the Canvas Cafe while staying at the adjacent hotel, trying to look for somewhere to eat. This is a must visit place with beautiful food, atmosphere and our service was beyond anything we expected. Upon checkout, we had to try breakfast before leaving for our cruise. The quality of service that our chef and host (same person!) gave us was outstanding. Even when serving multiple families, he kept a chipper, smiling demeanour and always made us feel at home. Thank you - will be coming back here soon!

Cure and quaint cafe, low key and away from the hustle and bustle. The owners are pleasant, the food and coffee felt like a delicious home cooked meal. Will definitely be back!

Great little tucked-away coffee and food shop. Had a wonderful cup of coffee and an excellent fresh made club sandwich.

Some excellent food here on the main course and dessert list; yuzu posset for dessert is exceptional. Service is affable and efficient.

Expect the unexpected.

A dish described as ‘Tuna, avocado, pickled chilli and cos’ comes with a completely undisclosed layer of puffed buckwheat which I disliked and ruined my enjoyment of the dish. I returned it mostly untouched; no enquiry was made by staff who just whisked it away. Bear in mind this represents one of the two dishes for which one is charged $85++

A side salad was delightful and the dressing pitch perfect. My main dish was served with a braisage which filled the bottom of the bowl even after I’d finished the fish and zucchini flower (both delightful); nowhere to eat the salad other than by perching leaves on the edge of the plate; no offer of a side bowl to enjoy the salad.

We were offered water at the start of the meal - then got hit with a charge of $16.50 for two people having water. I drank 1 1/2 glasses, making water $6 a glass.

An unexpected service charge on a SATURDAY of 10% made mincemeat of my gallery membership discount and left a sour taste in my mouth. I note that it is listed at the foot of the menu but the Australian norm is Sunday surcharge - not all weekend. Why not just be up front and have a weekend menu showing the fully loaded price - $93.50 for two very modest courses + $9 including surcharge for water.

Then a surcharge to pay by ANY card even though my card is attached to my savings account - not a credit card.

I felt to being gouged at every corner, and left having eaten a main course and dessert with a glass and a bit of water for $120.

The restaurant acquiesced after my complaint and removed some of the charges, but you can expect to be gouged right left and centre on top of an already robust menu price.

PS - as for atmosphere, terrific views on four of the tables but the clientele is a mix of people who talk loudly and incessantly about themselves. Again, and again.

It's a perfect spot to have breakfast away from the CBD without being too far, and both the service and food are fantastic!

Lovely little cafe tucked away near the Novotel and Convention Centre. Staff was friendly, coffee was great and the cafe had a lovely vibe with different canvases on the wall. $4 for a dine in long black, so cheap for the area. Would highly recommend

This morning my wife and l had breakfast at the Canvas Cafe next to the Oaks Apartments near Darling Harbour Sydney. A very quaint little cafe which served an exceptional breakfast by a very polite hard working gent. This place is a hidden gem. Thanks heaps and l would highly recommend this place for food.
