Such a lovely cafe.
Food was tasty and fresh, service was friendly and food came out quickly, despite cafe being busy. BUT my favourite thing was the photo art coffees. Such a unique and fun novelty!
I also liked the elements of panda decor and the seating design.
*Beware: Parking 1 hr limits AND the poorly signposted,4 yellow vendor parking spots 'hidden' in the car park directly behind the cafe. That will cost you $$$$$ 😡

I'm a regular here, visiting almost every Thursday for the past six months—except during school holidays or when I’m traveling. I’ve tried over 70% of the menu, and it still excites me every time. The dishes are beautifully presented, combining simplicity with artistic flair that showcases the chef’s talent. Portions are just right for an Asian appetite. The staff are always friendly, and the ambiance is cosy and welcoming.

96 is conveniently located right opposite Blackburn train station. The cafe has a cosy outdoor courtyard leading to the carpark at the back and an ample inside seating area as well. So that's the layout. The food is delicious 😋 coffee comes in very attractive and decorative templates. It does make you wanna head back for a coffee to see what else they offer that day. 😄 The Benny is a great choice if struggling to decide what to eat. Service is impeccable too and staff are very polite. I would definitely recommend 👌

The food was enjoyable, but the overall experience felt more like a fast food joint than a relaxed suburban café. Ordering via QR code isn’t ideal for a Sunday morning-I would have much preferred traditional table service. The bar tables were also quite cramped and not very comfortable.

On a positive note, they did a lovely Mother’s Day coffee print, although it was amusingly served to the wrong person (a male at our table). A nice touch, but a bit of attention to detail would have made it even better.

WHILST ON HOLIDAY FROM NZ. I was fortunate enough to be taken to 96 Cafe near my granddaughters home in Blackburn a suburb of Melbourne. WOW, the place was popular, we were seated near rear courtyard we ordered a selection of delicious Asian foods that came well presented and were extremely delicious. The printed coffee froth was amazing, ordered with QR code on each table. The whole experience was very very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful and the experience in this cafe was exceptional!
I would recommend 96 cafe in Blackburn to any discerning diner wanting a wonderful experience!

Tried the shakshuka, and it was quite different- more like a tomato soup than the usual thick version. It had pesto in it, which was interesting; some bites worked, some didn’t. The best part was the generous buttered toast- two full pieces, perfect for dipping. Not much spinach (which I missed), but the tomato-heavy flavour was strong and comforting if that’s your thing.

The cafe also does printed photos on coffee, which is a fun one-off experience. I’d come back to try other dishes- the place feels creative and playful with their food.

Just dropped in for lunch without knowing anything about the place: we were absolutely delighted with the food and the exceptional service!
The coffee was excellent, too.
An unexpected bonus was receiving a Senior's discount (available weekdays)!

The food was fantastic! Our group ordered different meals & everyone loved theirs. They offer custom coffee art - you can upload a picture for them to 'print?' on the milk foam, which would be quite fascinating for kids. Plenty of 3H parking out back! The courtyard had sufficient heating making winter outdoor dining equally cosy! I'd love to come back & try other dishes.
